The MAF on most M96 engines SUCK plain and simple.
My Dad's 01' 996 c2 blew a MAF stock in 30k My 99' 986 blew one at 55k with a K & N Look around on Porsche forums, there are accounts of them failing left and right, stock or modified intake set-ups doesn't matter. THEY BLOW ANYWAYS SO GIVE THEM A REASON TO BLOW! About the Evo set up,they are both oil and paper based cone filters hooked up to them. I called Evo and they said their system is oil based but when I went to a shop around that was selling them it was the same exact Evo set up with a paper cone filter. |
Are you concerned with breaking your old one? I always say I'll keep it for when I sell, then I sell and the part sits around until I throw it away. There really won't be a reason to put it back on. Heck the buyer can't even see it. Probably wouldn't even know what they were looking at if they did. If you look at my link below the pic is where it needs to um... be in two? If you don't care about breaking it the job will take no more than 1-1/2hr.

Mine was oiled paper like a K&N but not excessively. No problems. Except oem removal.

You don't need to drop the motor to get stock intake out. You just need to be prepared to destroy it or remove the manifold. I chose to destroy the stock one--a dremel came in handy. The reward is a more aggressive intake sound.

EVO vs 2000 Boxter Automatic w/TIP
I noticed when I clicked on the EVOM web site from the post below that they didn't offer an intake for the 2000 5 sp auto w/tip. I wonder why that is? Also what is a BMC filter and where can u-get one?

MAF Less Sensitive
I am very new to Porsche Boxterland and have little to offer this forum as of now. However I was just poking around and found a parts store that had advertised a MAF that worked well in the 2000 boxter (other years too). What caught my eye was the fact that they listed the oem replacement ones, then this HD (if you will) or less sensitive element as they advertised it. I am sorry I can't remember the parts site buy as I recall I googled Porsche Boxter MAF. BTW can someone direct me to the post on how to de-snorkle my 2000 with pic's and how to remove the grilles with out breaking them up?
