cold run problems

Need help!

00 Boxster 2.7L auto will not run right cold (runs fine warmed up) Backfires (SOMETIMES) and runs rich (stalls sometimes also) for several minutes when started cold (can not be driven until warm) if driven it will set "check engine" light and run very bad. Once warm and restarted check engine light will not go on again. I can hear the tone change when it enters closed loop and it starts running right. Was in a RF crash last summer and problem started then. Dealer has replaced several sensors ?? the cat ?and can't seem to fix the problem.

Does a Boxster run on an open loop until the OS reach temp? If so this would seem to be the problem. Is the ECU programed to run the open loop? If so does it use any of the sensors in open loop or run completely on a pre determined program? If so I am thinking the ECU was damaged in the crash and the dealer doesn't want to replace it or simply doen't know enough to fix the car.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your issues.

Maybe if you list the CEL codes for everyone, they may be better able to assist you.

Good luck and keep us posted!

When you use an OBD II scanner to turn the CEL off, it will read out codes telling why the CEL was triggered. I believe there's a comprehensive list of what the codes mean over at Renntech.org. Tell us what the codes are, and I'm sure you'll have plenty of responses.
