the sound is weird. cause normally, when the shock blows. you'd hit the bumpstop when going over bumps. and you would not hear that loud hammer on metal sound.

but if you are braking and the nose dives, then its the shocks. when you go over wavy roads, does the car bounce up and down longer than it should? if so, then yeah, for sure shocks.

its odd that both went at the same time though.

i would get a matched set of shocks/springs. unless you wanted to go coilovers, which i would recommend, but a matched set should do you just fine.
