First thing you are going to need is a good socket set. Go to Sears and buy the bigest set you can afford. Make sure you get a 19mm socket for the wheels. And a breaker bar.
Then you are going to need is a good Jack and 4 Jack Stands.

Next figure out what projects you are going to want to do first.
If it is brakes then get a flare wrench set. And a motive brake bleader. Some clear tubing as well.

For Oil changes...a discount auto parts oil pan to keep the oil from spilling. Hex set for the drain. You can buy a large socket to take off the filter but i just use my muscles...UGH!!!Don't forget plenty of blue rags.

I don't think buying the durametric softwars is a #1 item to get. Unless your check engine light is on. Even if it is just go down to an auto parts store and borrow the code reader for 3 minutes.

How about a nice Porter Cable Polisher and pads for really taking care of your car?
That would be a nice birthday gift to yourself. www.autopia.com

Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner. Defintite must have.

This should get you going....Good Luck
