Your fathers car is a cable throttle, yours - E-gas, I have not driven an e-gas equiped car but I imagine it is not as crisp as a cable throttle car.
The gear ratios on your fathers car are different than yours, 2.5L vs 2.7L engines. The gears in his gearbox favor the 2.5 liter, and will produce different results than yours in the 2.7. His might or might not have an aftermarket intake, probably de-snorked. It sounds like you may not know the service history on your car. I would start out with an oil change, new air filter, I went with a BMC filter$100(oiled, but will last 30-50k miles, when it gets old and dirty, just replace, do not try to re-oil); De-snork, plenty of info around on this procedure. B&M short shifter, $150? Easy install and arguably the best mod for the money. After that your gonna be looking at some money for future mods, aftermarket exhaust - $600 - $1000, headers - $600 - $1000, Sport cats - $1000, ECU reprograming - $1000, suspension - $250(just springs) - $2500+(coilovers). Hope this helps.
