30,000 mile major service

Our 2000 S is coming up soon (gulp) to her 30,000 mile mark, and I've been fearing the worst as I peruse the literature about "major service" and all that entails. Any recommendations from those of you have already survived the experience?

If you're talking about a dealer-performed 30k service, then you need to brace yourself for a $900 bill. Take a couple hundred $ off for an indie Porsche shop.

I fully understand your trepidation.

we were lucky, we bought our 2002 S with 27k miles on it. I had read on this forum about the outrageous charge for a glorified oil change Porsche wants for a 30k service, so I made it part of the deal to include the 30k service at our already agreed-to purchase price.

I know owning a Porsche is special and it's a very special car, but come on.

It's time for our first oil change....$200 at the dealer, so I am boning up via this forum on the tools and procedures I need to do it myself.....

It's a Porsche, NOT a Ferrari

Other than all the inspections, there is nothing on the list very hard to do. If I remember: Oil and Filter change, Air and cabin filters, spark plugs, possibly brake fluid if you're at the two years.

No way I would pay the dealer the money for just that. Just my .02.

The 30,000 mile service is very easy to do yourself. On my 01, the plugs are good until 60,000 miles.
