Exhaust flange bolt

I snapped off a bolt where the exhaust manifold bolts to the muffler flange. I'm assuming the bolt is press fitted because I can't get it out. I was thinking of using a torch to heat it up (which I'll probably end up trying) but wanted to know if anyone else has had an issue removing these and if they had any suggestions.

Thanks,

Todd

Hey Todd99,

Yes, I believe they are heat pressed. Had the same issue when I installed my headers. I had my Porsche mechanic take care of it for me. Anyway, he did heat them up as you did/will. He then replaced them with OEM hardware (re: M8 nut; M8 x 20 mm bolt for an automatic transmission and M8 x 60mm bolt for a manual transmission).

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

broken bolts

I snapped 2 off when replacing my cv boots. I removed that section of the exhaust, rested the flange on a piece of pipe and a few carefull hits with a hammer and they came right out. No damage at all to the flange. I initially replaced the bolts with grade 8 bolts from the hardware store ($1.50) but have since replaced them with oem bolts and nuts ($5.00 per bolt, $4.00 per nut)! Good luck!
