Brake Fluid Indicator Light Came On...

Ran into a wierd situation today. We were out for an extended drive and I noticed the "BRAKE FLUID" indicator light come on while driving, of course at just about the furthest point from home...

Pulled over as soon as it was safe to do so and checked the reservoir - right at the top fill mark, just where it was after the last flush job. Pedal felt fine, good braking, but light still on. OK, so tried turning the car off and then back on - light went out and never came back on in the next hour+ (~100 miles).

Any clue what happened? Things to look at?

Hi,

It's a Brake System warning light, not a Brake Fluid warning light. It's possible that it was just a glitch. Or, that for some other reason, the vacuum pressure to the Booster dropped momentarily. Or, that a spec of debris floated past the sensor.

Nothing to worry about at this point, just keep an eye on it. When was the last time you swapped Fluid? This could have something to do with it...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Thanks, fluid is flushed yearly - last job was ~October.

Funny -- on my car it says "Brake Fluid", the 6th indicator over from the left. And the 8th over says "Brake Wear". If it were just one light, it would make sense for it to be for the whole system but with two specific lights labeled otherwise...?

I'm going to see what the wiring diagram says -- it is possible that the mice that set up shop in that area over the winter chewed on the wire and it might be grounding with vibration?
