Installing OBC stalk/ enabling OBC in 02 S

I have an 02 S that was ordered without the On Board Computer. My previous understanding was that you could simply have the dealer turn on the OBV via the PST2 and it would then show outside temperature readout. I spoke to my dealer yesterday, who told me that worked on cars up to 01, but that the 02 and newer you also need to install the stalk.

I primarily just want the outside temp readout, but if I can have the whole OBC I suppose it is useful to have. Can anyone verify if this info is correct? If anything, I would think it would be up to 02 was one process, and 03 and up would be different, not up to 01 and 02 and newer being different.

Also, if I choose (or have to) install the stalk, how much of a PITA is this and what is the estimated cost?

Thanks

Patrick

This worked on 1997-2000. The design of the cluster changed in 2001 and you do not see any of the OBC displays after it is turned on unless you install a switch or stalk.

If you did the retrofit on a 2002 then the OBC displays will look like the displays on a 2001 with the OBC option.

How to do it is on renntech and we made a DVD of several installs.

You know, I've wanted to do this but where does one get the stalk?

Talk to Jeff Clark at Sunset Porsche in Oregon. Dealer cost + 15%. Jeff will know exactly everything you will need.

For those who want to do this, here are the required parts as per my dicussion with Jeff:

996 613 219 10 EWC 4-stalk switch
999 650 513 40 plug
(4) 000 979 079 wire ends
(2) 993 552 573 01 01C plug

Total for the above is $175 plus shipping.

Once the new stalk switch is installed, you must enable the functionality via the PST2 and all will work.

Hope this helps

Patrick

You need 5 not 4 of the wires.

You do not need 993 parts.
