I currently own the same Mercedes Star diagnostic tool that started this thread, and it has provided excellent results for diagnosing and maintaining my 2007 W221. Now, I’m wondering about its compatibility with the newer Mercedes-Benz models in the US. Specifically, I want to know which of the latest models the tool will work with, given the transition in diagnostic software over the years.
From what I’ve heard, Mercedes-Benz in the US used DAS (Diagnostic Assistance System) for all models up until 2009. Starting in 2010, Xentry replaced DAS as the primary diagnostic software. This raises the question of whether the tool I have, which is likely set up for DAS, can still work with newer vehicles post-2009.
I’ve also come across information that Xentry requires an internet interface to function properly. This could mean that my current tool, which doesn't have internet connectivity or access to the Xentry system, may no longer be compatible with the newer models after 2009.
As I’m thinking of purchasing a new Mercedes Star diagnostic tool, I want to ensure that I get one that will work with both older and newer Mercedes models, particularly those from 2010 and beyond. It seems like the transition to Xentry has created some challenges, and I want to make an informed decision about which version to invest in.
Ultimately, I need to determine whether the current tool I have is sufficient for ongoing diagnostic needs or if I should upgrade to a newer model of the
Mercedes Star diagnostic tool that supports Xentry and the internet interface required for newer vehicles.
