Moo-chelle Obama

Let's see, the country's jobless rate is at an all-time high, the nation's credit rating is in the crapper, we're involved in more wars than ever before, the deficit is beyond recovery
and poverty , illiteracy and crime continue to permeate the US . And that's just to name a few . But, Moo-chelle Obama sees fit to spend 10 million dollars of taxpayers money on lavish vacations, top shelf booze and shopping sprees . Hopefully there's only one more year to go !!!!!!

Speaking of vacations, Bush took 500 vacation days at our expense during his reign. Thats over 1 and 1/2years of vacation, two months a year. What, was bush a closet socialist, because he sure took vacations like those socialist Frogs do.

Wonder how much his vacations cost.

I'm no Bush fan either, but most of his vacations were stateside . If not at his own ranch.
Regardless, we're talking about Michelle Gras . Which begs the question, how many vacations do you think Laura Bush took, and what was the bill ? Oh, and we'll leave the part out about how Ms. Obama surrendered her license to practice law facing dis-barment ! What a looker though !

for a native Chicagoan, I consider myself pretty tolerant of Obama bashing, but that, sir, crosses the line! That's just crazy talk!

Harry Truman

Harry Truman was a Democrat...I believe he made about $24,000 a year, no secret service, no lavish parties, vacation?, even drove himself home after leaving office. Those where the days.
I remember in the 70's reading or hearing on the TV about higher pay for government workers, which includes Congress and the President which was to bring in better people for public service...and look what it got us...BANKRUPTCY.

The source of our $14 Trillion debt is NOT from govt workers or politician pay checks.

Quite the contrary it is from govt payments to PRIVATE citizens in the form of Medicare and more in Social Security checks than the recipients payed in before retirement. Toss in a few off-budget unfunded wars, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter costing upwards of $12 billion, F/A Hornets costing $2 billion, air craft carrier replacement nearing $3 billion, Predator and Reapers drones costing $2 billion all totaling over a trillion and half dollars in military and counter-terror.
We used to be able to offset those entitlement and defense costs from manufacturing but over the last decade we gave that away so that Wal-Mart could stock its shelves with cheap flat panel TVs, Ipads, yo gaba gaba t-shirts, comforters, shoes and other communist made products.
But the easy thing to do is to blame Congress and govt while WE are the ones who elected the very "pro-business" govts that set into motion the outsourcing of our economy (for NOTHING) and deregulation of the banks who wasted no time in ruining our vitally important credit flow.

Perfectlap, I did some quick math and SS recipients would have to live to well past 107 years old to get out all the cash they put into the program. Now Medicare might be a different animal, but SS is not going well because the fund's been robbed from repeatedly by Congress through the years.

Am I not correct on this?

BTW, In the worst recession since the great depression, one would think the First Lady would curtail her overseas travel to show the country she's cutting back like the rest of us are FORCED to do.

[Disclaimer: I dislike both parties in our two-party system with a vengeance so don't think my Obama bashing means I'm a tea party backer. Every seated congressman should be forced out of office next November. I'm all for what GOOOH | Get Out of Our House: A non-partisan plan to elect citizen representatives! is attempting to do.]

Personal vacation expenses are borne by the family, not the country. Just like meals and other personal expenses. If you'ld like to throw blame around, blame a do-nothing Congress. They're the ones who authorize all government spending. The trillion or more that President B expensed for the unnecessary wars hasn't helped either. If you want to keep it "real", keep our jobs, manufacturing, troops and aid home where it belongs.

Steve, I can assure you that the Obamas did not pay for Airforce One, all the fuel, the pilots, the secret security detail, and so forth for her global galavanting.

Remember, Congress is suppose to be good stewards of the people's money (taxes). I firmly believe, if Congress hadn't turned the SS into the General Fund, it would be self sustaining properly invested. As for Medicare & Medicaid, fraud is the culprit plus government regulations...oh, throw in AMA spending millions to get their say so on what benefits them most, add trail lawyer lawsuits, you have system that is corrupt into itself. Strong we must stay and you can thank the Bush administration of getting the military back in shape. But what I fear the most, is, the idiots who put Obama into office.:ah:

Ken Kesey called, and requests you remove "Old Hippie" from your sig, particularly while praising the military-industrial complex.

The Trustees Report for SS projects that it can pay out FULLY until 2036. After that checks need to start shrinking or , and this is the important part that is left out of most calculations, wages for Americans need to start going UP instead of falling as they have been for the last decade. Our workers are unksilled and the private sector are not really interested in spending the money to train, despite their lowest ever taxes. Corporate taxes today equal barely 1% of GDP, half of what it was 40 years ago. The largest exodus of workers (baby boomer) this economy has taken in one shot are only compounding the problem. The jobs that up and coming generations are taking now pay less than the jobs the baby boomers took on when they started paying into the entitlement programs.
ANY shifting of the status quo, or actual reform to healthcare results in a political bloodbath (See summer 2009 townhall screaming) those now lower wages of American workforce will not allow for continued funding of social security AND Medicare. Every nickel is going to get eaten up by Medicare and military defense spending and of course the monumental interest payments on both. If you strip away the deficit element of both of these sure...social security will probaly see a barely 1% increase as a share of GDP -- from 5% to 6%. But the rightwing on one side and left on the other are neck deep in grid-lock. Reagan's budget man David Walker famously said "guns, butter and tax cuts. You can't do all three". We simply can't afford to keep spending on Medicare, the military, servicing the national debt interest and balk at any increases in taxes. It's madness stuck in park.

You make good comments about what could be done to fix it and the consequences of such fixes.

I'm just pissed off Congress robbed from the SS fund and didn't pay it back with interest. How the heck did we vote in such short-sighted idiots? We only have ourselves to blame. Now we're paying out billions for disaster relief from funds we don't' have and no cuts are being made elsewhere to cover it.

Our government is a house of cards. I say blow it over sooner than later so we can get back on track... or have we ever been on track?
