986 slow cranking when hot

High everyone. This is a question and answer.

We have a 2001 Boxster 3.2s Tiptronic, ( my wife always wanted one) which we have had 3 yrs.
It is in mint condition and had masses of paperwork from Porche including IMS bearing, engine rear oil seal, and so on, which is why we purchased it.
Info. - From leaving school in 1976 I was a HGV mechanic for 10 years so know a little about vehicles. (obviously not these new things they make now)
My starter bendix went so I replaced it 2.5 years ago, and all seemed well. Over time I noticed it was more sluggish when cold, but when hot it would hardly turn over (no problem on starting, just slow turn over). I have looked at threads from everywhere, so can only give you my experiences.
I changed the battery, alternator and belt as a precaution, and also the positive cable which goes between the starter, alternator and the connection point at the front of the engine under the cover. (I read that Boxsters before 2003 had issues with the crimping on that cable.)
None of these made any difference.
I have removed and cleaned all battery terminals and all earthing points including adding and extra one to the engine. - No difference (have done resistance testing everywhere)
I remembered the starter that I had fitted a few years before was not a Bosch so figured that has to be the problem, so two days ago I purchased a new Bosch starter motor and fitted it this morning.
Problem is now solved. The car turns over like any other vehicle even when hot.
So the secret is to buy a good branded starter in the first place.

ps. Most u-tube video's showing starter replacements show you using a 27 inch extension from the inside of the car to the bottom bolt on the starter motor. Not necessary, you simply use a bent 15mm ring spanner. (problem solved)
