Hello, I知 in the process of purchasing my 1st Porsche.
 It痴 a 2000 Boxster S w/ manual trans.
The car has only 4,700 miles, and has been covered in the garage for twenty plus years.
I知 just learning about the IMS bearing issue. Do to the low mileage, I知 going to go ahead and have the replacement bearing installed.
Porsche dealerships quoted me any wares from $3,900 - $4,600.
Is this amount inline with what others have paid?

 Thanks

It is if it includes a clutch and flywheel as well as new RMS. You might want to get a quote from a good independent Porsche mechanic since dealers normally charge a lot more than independents.

I would expect the cost to be ~1/2 of that at a reputable independent

Redwood, takes jayg's advice seriously. Get a PPI. That car can easily have issues that will turn it into a $5k paperweight.

Also, expect to need to overhaul the suspension regardless of how it drives today.

Where in California are you?Get a PPI done on the car BEFORE purchase

Don't be fooled by low mileage, garage queens often have problems
These cars are meant to be driven, not sit covered in a garage

"These cars are meant to be driven"
 Exactly.
My 2002 one-owner from new Box has 135,000 miles on it and every service and parts change history since day one.
IMS (LN Engineering) done as well as clutch and RMS.

Sitting around in a garage with 4000+ miles would get my Spidey-Sense tingling.
