My predicament now is I have posted a thread on Facebook 986 group and a few have suggested it could be chain tensioners.
I’m now faced with spending the purchase price on the car to get it fixed.
What to do?

Wiser heads may prevail... but I would recommend paying to have a PPPI performed (post pre-purchase inspection). That likely will identify all things needing repair or maintenance... and then you can post on here for those wiser heads to recommend if it's a keeper or killer.
