New 2000 S owner in Beverly Hills

Picked up a fairly mint 2000 Boxster S last night, my first Porsche after many, many other sports cars and hot rods. Always wanted a Boxster S or 911. I'm very happy with the condition, history and price I paid.

This seems to be the place to introduce yourself so here is a start, I'll add more later. New acquisition is silver with a full leather tan interior. Auto AC and a Porsche radio with equalizer are factory but I still need to figure out what else is an option vs. what is standard. The only aftermarket add on appears to be an amp. Went into service in late 1999, pilot owned it. In mid 2008, a crate engine was installed at 29,000 miles, Porsche paid for 1/2 the engine cost, total bill around $10,000. Looks like he sold it right after that to the guy I bought it from, 53,300 on the clock now.

I suspect the engine was replaced due to an IMS bearing failure. Oil was in the coolant.

Pics and more details to follow. Any LA area mechanic or parts sources would be appreciated. I hope to do most of my own wrenching on this dealer serviced car. Who can afford a $318 oil change?

Congrats on the new ride! More then likely the engine failed due to cracked cylinder heads based on what you said about the oil/coolant but either way sounds like you have a pretty nice ride there!
There are a lot of parts sources out there but I would recommend Pelican Parts, good prices and lots of good tech info~

Best of luck!

Welcome and it ain't real without pics

As far as Porsche ships, here is a list of shops that work on lots of PCA members cars and do tech inspections for DE & TT events YMMV
Tech Stations | Zone 8 - Porsche Club of America

As far as parts, start reading posts.
In addition to Pelican, check out Warehouse 33 | Porsche Parts, Audi Parts, Volkswagen Parts, BMW Parts, Mercedes-Benz Parts and Sprinter Parts.. If you enter the coupon code RENNLIST at checkout you get a 10% discount

Tons of great info here, learn how to use the search feature

Really enjoying this car so far, took it out on Sunset Blvd through Bel Air last night for some spirited driving. Very impressed with the smooth, confident and controlled handling. I love how light this car is.

Some quick camera phone pics from the night I bought it:

Going to get a vintage CA black plate, maybe NOTA550

Need to do search on how to decode this:

Interior, not digging the faux carbon fiber but a little afraid to remove it.

The car is in great shape, tiny rock chip on the windshield, vanity mirror covers loose, front trunk light out and a small crack in the otherwise clear back window but other than that, I have not found any other defects so far. Leather is like new.

Anyone want to guess on what I paid?

Plans are for some wheels and tires, possibly some real or fake vintage looking Fuchs. I might store the Porsche radio and replace it with something with Bluetooth and Nav. Glass back window maybe at some point. And I really would like to get the car wrapped to protect the original paint which seems to be defect free and has a great shine. Wrap it in some thing completely different that goes with the tan leather.

OK, here is my attempt at decoding:

XSC = Crest in headrest
424 - CD shelf
446 - colored wheel caps
454 - cruise control
490- HiFi sound
502 - Made in Finland
551 - Wind deflector and storage shelf above engine
584 - Storage box above engine
659 - Trip computer
680 - Bose surround sound
696 - Radio code, need to figure out which on I have, Porsche CRD-220?

I don't know where the code for Automatic HVAC or Full leather interior is shown. Not a big fan of Bose. I need to find this storage shelf above the engine for the wind deflector.

Color code L92U
Interior X1

There is no code for automatic AC as it is standard
I don't think you have the full leather option, IIIRC, full leather does not have perforated seat inserts
the storage shelf is installed, it is on top of the engine cover and with the top up, you will see 4 black screw handle thingies

nice color combo

Enjoy the car and drive it like you stole it

Join your local PCA and look for a car control clinic or a Performance Driving School and you will be amazed at how great these cars are.

We have one coming up in San Diego next weekend
Currently there is 1 spot left, If you can make it it will be the best $400 you ever spent

Thanks for the info, wish I could make it next weekend. $400 for a 3 day driving school seems like a great deal. I will be joining PCA and watching out for a future event. I'm watching the progress of the Porsche Driving Experience being built in Carson.
