New to Porsche Question IMS/RMS Preventative Fix

I'm considering buying a 2003 Boxster S with ~ 30k miles. The dealer just installed new IMS and RMS seals. The RMS was reported leaking a little bit before the seal was fixed and the preventative IMS bearings were installed when the RMS was fixed. All the other standard maintenance is documented for the car. Question: Now that the IMS and RMS work has been performed. Will this completely prevent potential future issues associated with those seals? Thanks.

No, replacing the IMS bearing and the RMS seal simply lowers - albeit significantly - that these items will fail in the near future. All bearings and seals will fail eventually. It's just a matter of when.

So, preventative replacement of those components is not going to prevent the problem? I would love to buy the car, but am a little concerned it may have the dreaded IMS failure.

Dealers don't spend their money on preventive maintenance. No profit in it for them. Most of their repairs are reactive and needed. Make sure there are a few KMs on the car since the repair to ensure they didn't do it just to hide an already exploded bearing.

And the IMS fix is not a permanent fix. I think they encourage you to do it again - although it's a pretty big interval. Someone can fill in how long I'm sure.

And nothing every completely prevents future problems. All you can do is manage them and reduce the odds.

The dual row LN bearings are now rated at 75K mile replacement, but the single row only IMS Solution is a permanent fix.
