GI in Germany, First Porsche!!!

Guten Tag from Bavaria. Im on active duty here in Germany and told my wife that if we were going back to Germany, that I wanted a Porsche. After nearly a month of shopping around, I found the one. I purchased a 2000 Boxter 986 with 160,000 km. Full disclosure, I went into this purchase kind of cold and unaware of Boxterisms which became apparent 2 hours after I drove out of the previous owner's driveway. As we stood on the side of the Autobahn calling for a tow truck, I wondered if I was in over my head. After a new water pump, belt, pulley, thermostat, and battery, my love for the car has grown 10 fold. I absolutley love driving it. Just this weekend my wife mentioned heading to a farmer's market for some fresh vegetables and I negotiated with her to take the car many towns over. Im sure many of you have driven over an hour for some fresh tomatoes! In closing, Im no gearhead and inevitably will have many dumb questions. I hope you seasoned guys will be willing to offer some mentorship to a green Porsche owner.

Welcome to the forum and 986 ownership! A picture with your first post, and nice looking car. Good stuff.
I was a GI in Bad Kreuznach, Germany in the late 80s driving a BMW 1802, then a 535i in Ansbach from '98 to '01. Great cars, but I love my 986s more. My wife and I enjoyed lots of long drives through the countryside on the weekends. The area around Gößweinstein and Pottenstein was a favorite destination for scenic hikes. I hope to get back there for a visit some day - and rent a Porsche for the trip.
