    Hi JaKe,
Could you help with a quick question from a would-be owner trying to make a good purchasing decision. Specifically I was looking at early 2000s 986, and had read that the S may have the more durable cylinders - in some way thicker and less deformable. Does this ring true? Would make sense to prefer an S over the base as far as engine longevity goes. And is cylinder liner slipping or cracking common enough to be a worry? I do understand that the IMS bearing is an issue on all these cars so would be planning to upgrade/fix that.
    Thanks for any help here!

I posted a question on this yesterday, but under the shortlived engines survey - so not sure people would see.
