Sad news in NH

The Old Man is gone. After years of fighting the elements, the Old Man collapsed last weekend. There is some talk of rebuilding it, but apparently we are talking about 50 tons of rock. And, it wouldn't really be an "authentic" feature any more. The Old Man was a familiar site on many a Boxster run and I don't look forward to his conspicuous absence.

I took this picture in Fall 2001.

Talking Heard Kerry was leading in NH and left!

Native son leaves State after too many Massachusetts residents move north and spoil it!

That is terrible!!!
I currently live in VA the last few years, but I did live in the White Mountains of NH for about 4 years in a town called Lancaster, about 25 minutes east of Littleton.
It is very sad to hear that this is gone, especially when I used to drive by it ALL the time.
I guess that the harsh winds that whip through those mountains and the harsh additional weather conditions finally caught up to it.

Unhappy Old Man was in dangerous shape for years.

Yeah, actually it was known for decades that the Old Man was close to collapse. There were cables attached to the mountain face in an effort to stabilize it, but finally gravity and nature took over. Certainly, it was unique and will be greatly missed. The Granite State has lost its signature landmark.
