Door speaker upgrade?

My 01 S has speaker grills in the carpeted lower door section but no speakers behind them.
OEM speakers are in the rear storage section & up on the dash by windshield

What size or type speaker can drop in the doors with little fuss? I would like to upgrade the audio system.

Thanks Rich

LOL - it's been a long time since we've had this discussion but... there are [what Porsche calls] speakers, more definitively [again according to Porsche] woofers in tuned ports located behind there. Usually a post like yours starts w/ "Help, my door speakers aren't working".

FWIW, their signal is from combining the front and rear channels below "X" crossover point.

Anyhow, it's easy to upgrade them to 6.75", or even 6x9" drivers. However, if you don't also swap out the amp, you'll be limited still to the lower range as the crossover is built into the amp. R&R is easy enough. Here are links for the BoxsterWiki to help you...

Good luck

When you determine the size you want from the tutorials, I would recommend going to Amazon.com and searching for Polk Coax speakers that fit the bill. I dropped all of $100 for all four (2 dash, 2 doors) Polks delivered and they made a huge difference in sound with the stock head unit. A great upgrade for the cost IMO.
