dash speaker replacement questions
 

I did a search and read most of the articles that have been posted . I think I've got everything down in my head except one item . Seems like most of you that have done the dash speaker replacement have glued/epoxied the new speaker into the modified OEM speaker cage/frame . Any concerns about future speaker replacing with the speakers epoxied into place ? How are you going to " break " the epoxy bond ? Or is that not a concern deal with it if/when it shows up ?

Does the new speaker have to be bonded to the frame ? Or can that bond be a silicone/RTV so it's easier to break in the future if needed ? If it matters I think I'm going to go with Alpine 410's they seem to be a decent price/quality trade off . One of my OEM speakers in the beast died so I have to replace the pair . There is a thread documenting the retrofit I did with a plastic template I made in order not to destroy the factory speakers

I did not glue my Infinity 4" Speakers onto the old holders...4" is just a bit too small in diameter to offer enough space to glue it properly. I used 4 damping foam pieces, crimped the 4 metal holding brakets of the speakers, cut little openings into the frames sidewall, so the speaker will sit tight in spot. Additionally...the holding frame will be screwed to the Speaker dash Frame, so the Speaker's metal frame will be sandwinched between the Speaker dash frame and the old holder framing. I might have a photo somewhere, difficult to describe...lol.

If you want to use glue, no worries of future replacements...a dremel can easily cut through any glue without braking the frame.

Any chance you have a link ? I clicked on your screen name and went to your posts , 6 pages but I didn't see the one about speakers . Maybe I missed it . For whatever reason I just don't like the idea of using epoxy to hold the speakers in . I guess I need to tear into it and go from there . Thanks

BRAN the pictures are very helpful thanks. So you were able to bend/crimp the speaker mounting tabs so they are tight and don't vibrate ? Looks very clean .

Now that I am looking at the pics on my computer vs. my phone I can see that BRAN did not crimp the speaker tabs he trimmed them to match the diameter of the speaker frame . Clever use of foam to isolate from vibration . Thanks guys

Actually it does not really matter if they were crimped or not, I thought that way (crimped) they could stay even better in place.;)
