Question on OBC upgrade - Broken Tab

I am doing the OBC hack on a 2000 Boxster S.

I removed the air bag and wheel and find the tip of the plastic tab is broken. The one they talk about here with the red arrow. :

About 1/8" of the tip is broken but still hanging on. I could glue it. I will replace it if necessary.

Does anyone know if it is necessary to replace the whole part or does it not matter? I am not sure how that tab effects the air bags or not.

You should be ok with just gluing the tip back in place. If I remember right, the plastic piece just clips to the backside of the steering wheel and isn't under much stress at all.

I believe it is a clock spring that connects to the airbag and keeps the wires from winding around itself when you turn the steering wheel.

That said, I would wait to hear what others (more educated than I) have to say about that tab.

That is the clock spring and I seriously doubt that glue will hold.

It is a question about a DIY project. It is from the OBC upgrade project. I am sure other doing this mod would be interested. If you haven't had a similar problem with this tab, maybe we can wait for someone who does know the answer and there would be even less clutter if we eliminate the scolding.

Posts like this belong elsewhere, along with your bad attitude. I was trying to help you by pointing you in the right direction where you will get more responses. But, you'll never get any help from me again...with anything. You've just made my "ignore" list.
