OEM looking START-engine button: The idea...
 

okay...The idea:

(additional) OEM cigarette lighter ---> transformed into ---> START-engine button.

Functions: Only activating the starter once until engine is running, nothing else!

The key still needs to be in the ingnition switch (position 1: ignition ON)
As soon as the engine is running, it neither should be possible to activate the starter again by pressing the button nor should it be possible to turn the engine OFF.
The light ring around the starter button should turn e.g. red (ignition ON) and green (engine running).

I have a 2nd OEM cigarette lighter installed (without function) and it just feels right to have a START-engine button right there. Benefits: Keeping your key cylinder alive longer...and it would have an AWESOMENESS factor, too :D

Since you have to put the key in anyway, why ???
BTW, that 2nd "lighter" position is for the variable speed wipers control

You have a lot of switches! What are thy all for??
I like the switch positions on the CD holder. I have never seen that before

A rational reason could be:
1.) Less stress on the ignition cylinder (tends to fail)
2.) It COULD be designed as an additional theft protection feature
but those reasons are just blabla....
3.) The real reason: EMOTION
pressing a button is just sooooo much more fun than turning a key...PURE EMOTIONS...and we all know...PORSCHE is about emotions, not rationality :D

Where did you get that rainsensor from? Difficult to install? Works well?

I got the OEM retrofit kit from FVD-Brombacher. It is ~150 bucks (might be cheaper now?) It was pretty easy to install and if I can do it, anybody else can do it...not a biggie ;)

Works better than anything else, IMO it is worth every penny!...and it glows red in the dark :eek:

Someone did a push button in the same way. There really isn't less stress on the cylinder since you'll still be turning it on and off. My little lady's car is push button, so I kind of like the traditional "key on the wrong side of the wheel" thing. :D

@ ANTNY (or anyone else who knows): Those ebay starter buttons seem to do what I am looking for, BUT what happens, if you press the button while the engine is running? A starter killer?

and yes...a PORSCHE ignition key needs to stay "on the wrong side" for ever! :cheers:
