I haver the assembly out of the car, getting the new metal assembly into the plastic cradle is the problem

No not the buckets
I don't see any way possible to get the actual shifter into the cradle with the buckets already installed unless you cut the bearing bosses.....of course than it would be worthless and ruined.
I am talking about the actual installation of the shifter without the buckets into the plastic original cradle...I had to really lean on mine to get it in....was actually worried I might break or destroy the cradle. My buckets were way undersized so I never completed the installation..Ben has me a new unit on the way...A very professional Guy....Thanks Ben Dwight |

well If I remember well it takes some finesse to get it in, but it should go in. If you want you can remove the first bearing, it might help a little :) I received your shifter ! and fixed it :) first, don't use grease, it's already lubricated were it needs it! then I put the buckets in my drill, and ground them with 150grit sand paper, then 500 and 1200. Got mine installed today
I could never believe how much better the shift felt after installation . My replacement shifter fit like a glove and is so much more definite now.
I do have one question while I was quite careful with the cable placement and getting it back where is is supposed to be, second gear feels like it could be a bit further or it should move slightly more to engage better ?? It does not slip or try to slip out of gear....just feels like it not quite there....anyone else have this same situation ? Thanks Dwight |

my biggest help was to take good pictured with my phone for reference, also I removed the cradle or shifter assembly completely( so I could move it tot he bench...be careful removing the old bushings with a utility knife

I put the cables in the exact same place where they were, and I don't feel that. did you remove the green piece in the bottom of the assembly ? it can interfere with the cables. maybe try to move the cable a little be more inside the threaded receiver (I don't know how to call it ?). The most "difficult" part for me was to break to old bushings out, I was a little afraid, but after that, should be easy :) Ben |
I did not remove the green piece....drove it quite a bit today and all gears are engaging well and staying where they should....if it's working leave it alone :)

Mine installed last weekend and love it as well. There's still some play in mine, but I think that's from the left plastic thing that's left from the original shifter for the side by side play. Any way to tighten this up?

Yes there will always be some play in the rest on the assembly/cables/gearbox.
I've been told that there is a screw you can tighten in the gearbox but I don't know exactly ! |

You will need to remove the green peice. The cable ends will rub. You can also pur washers under the shifter console about 1/8 inch before you run out of stud to bolt it down. |
Is there another run of these coming up or do you have any extra in stock now? Interested in picking up one of these. Have some slop in my shifter now and figure when I take the console apart to replace the connectors that probably have play in them would like to just get it all done and install the short shifter too.
