Our WD is not a wide object at all. Its mini. I see the original idea best fit (there, sharing personal opinions with you lol). I think you should just go for a crest alone - subtle, nice edgy glow and that's it mate. You got your P badge already on your hood. In amber of course. Your red tone gives a smooth feel to the car, and amber gives exactly that effect. Also nearly exact same color as your gauges and interior lighting, can't make the diff if not told I'm sure. some inspiration for you (and lots of blah, sry) |
Quote:
You certainly deserve all the accolades you get but don't get a big head LOL. Thanks for your input much appreciated, I think you are correct! Just the crest and in Amber is exactly what I will order when you have stock. Cheers mate keep up the good work! Jon |
Smaller Crest
1 Attachment(s)
One of the last pics I uploaded with the PORSCHE and Crest on the Trunk had a standard sized Badge on it same as on the hood, but I found that didn't look too great under the lettering (personal opinion). I found a German ebayer selling these smaller badges that go on the steering wheel with a single fastener pin on the back. I bought a couple off him. When they arrived I thought it was a much better size for the trunk, so I cut the pin off and filed the back of the crest smooth (I didn't want to drill a hole in the trunk) then I stuck it on with 2 sided 3M tape on the trunk. I think the smaller crest under the 'S' looks OK.

Get a cold white as spare LED and you'll be all set for a few topless summers ;) Glad I could help :D lol |
Shipping cost adj: Gettin cheaper and cheaper!
Looks like I've robbed a few of you on shipping fee (hehehe). I'll issue a refund as soon as I can no worries (despite my near-to-perfection scam act loll).
I've also adjusted the flat rate$ for a 950grams parcel on the site also, much cheaper. What happened is I was using official quotes preset to old round up numbers - as explained in the old policy. Which was 1kg. I swear the Postal Service here used to round up numbers by as much as half kg for Int'l Air Mail... somehow this seems to be something of the pass. So everyone wins, and I get to figure out how to refund the diff to seventeen good fellas :/ failol Affordable now, latest quote Priority Air Mail (eta 10-15days) $22.20 (CANADA) Priority Air Mail (eta 10-15days) $25.56 (USA) Priority Air Mail (eta 10-15days) $30.64 (EU) haven't taken install pics yet... I'll hurry (sat morning). wishing good weather to everybody ;) |

I obviously can't speak for those you "robbed" hehehe but if it was me there's NO WAY I would accept a refund. Gees mate ALL the work you put in for this DIY a few cents is not gonna break us. In comparison to all the thieves out there in industry, "like the last one who put their objection to your DIY" name withheld for possible litigation BAHAHAHA your product is not just 1st Class but extremely reasonably priced. PORSCHE themselves should learn from that. I know they have a brilliant product but let's face it they are profit mongers there I said it LOL. Do you reckon you made a fan here Nine...lol |
PS. The weather here at the moment is summer, I went for a drive last night with the top down temperature 28 degrees CELSIUS 82 Fahrenheit.
So wish I had the deflector on last night so cool. I will definitely get the white LED set as well. |
I am definitely leaning toward design #1, however, I thought that this may be a good design choice for those of us with a little "redneck" in them! What do you think, Fred?

Ps did you remove your Center console ?
|
Have a look!
Embarrassing because I'm sure 17 other guys will have a better way to get it done. But this is what the set-up looks like on mine (no flaming please!). Don't remove the trim "completely, just loose it up is fine (use plastic flat bar). Well, if you plan on replicating this setup anyway. Not recommending removing the trims... just in case the clips are dry as raisins (1997 loll) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/011421983411.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/021421983423.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/031421983435.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/041421983447.jpg ^ I think it's all goodies. Nobody will notice or care. Worth it; wait until the sun goes down you'll see what I mean lol) |

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421984048.jpg Fieldfit, looks good. One word of advice be super careful. It scratches very easily. I handled with microfibre and still managed to scratch it but still looks amazing :D Fred got any pics of the wires going into the console |
Quote:
You can scratch it as much as you want, any plastic 'polisher' works in all honesty (Novus, PlastX, etc). 2 min buff with a microfiber and it comes back brand new looking ;) Just don't scratch it with a solid stainless steel "wrist watch". Also don't use WINDEX or any strong chemical on that thing - ever - and it should last you a few years. No connection pics at the moment Martin -stop embarrassing me lolll. Planning on reaching/snaking the 12v lead wire to the clam's brake light and terminate there (that's also on the parking light circuit). When I'll have time I want to do that brake-light dual intensity retrofit thingy. |

- NO cleaning the clear acrylic with dry or dirty cloth (clean, wet, warm water) - NO strong chemical whatsoever on it, it will craze the acrylic (e.g. windex) - Requires periodic maintenance. Buy a sml btl of plastic polisher next time you visit you auto store. Polish 1-2min with a wet microfiber. You will see those micro scratch when it's illuminated, they go away after a quick 2 min polish. Acrylic is silly easy to polish (must watch on youtube) - Take lots and lots of pics. Its good fortune Chinese ppl say ;) |
I used a flat screw driver with some shop towels over the edge and pushed it in between ( lazy )http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421985827.jpg

The ashtray's circuit was a bad idea from myself however... it a 6.6volt circuit. That will teach me to listen to the others (Charles? you there?!) I'll tackle the rear clamshell brake light for my set-up tomorrow morning if weather allows. I'll report back on that. Some will want to hook it up on a dash switch, others on the center console window switch, where else.... rear brake lights circuit, etc etc Let's see what the others do for theirs Jon - and then let's copy them lolllll |
Say what?!
I'll have to check mine out. I didn't take a voltage reading when I swapped the bulb for an LED, but just calculated the resistor for 12V, assuming it was so... Quote:
|
Would there be any issues if I hooked it up to the ashtray circuit ?

996 are 3.3v also I was toying the idea and found the intel on RL (goog'ed). Got me interested, and found a fella link here ref to the 6.6v. The power of the internet huh! Mistake. Silly human behavior... always last minute. Just wanted to dbl-check Sat morning before making more of a fool. (glad I got you in with me, thx btw loll) Goit it hooked up on an old usb cable/cigar style atm. wires running down quietly and unnoticed. Big head sry |

Sat morning is breakfast with wife and play time for me until 12noon! There you go. Will report soon. 100% I want to hook it up on my right tail light' loom. We'll see, still thinking (window switch!) If one day someone makes a dual brake intensity diy!!! I'll subscribe for sure |
Let's see them turned on!

How I installed My Windstop
Step One - Carefully push the windstop clip and pull the windstop towards the back of the car. The wind stop should pop out easily and without much force. ( Take care not to break the clips ) Step Two - Once you have your windstop out pull the bracket away from the screen. The bracket should come away relatively easily. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421992546.jpg Step Three - Line up your illuminated windstop to the bracket. You will have to drill a small hole for the cable to run though. I used a small drill bit and drilled from the top down, then from the bottom up applying pressure along a horizontal path ( so the connector can slide past )http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421992736.jpg Step Four - Install your illuminated windstop into the bracket and install it onto your car. You will want to keep the protective sheet on the windstop for now. Make sure the wire runs towards the driver side. I used a large flat screwdriver with paper towel wrapped around the tip and pushed the wire into the gap on the roll bar cover.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421992949.jpg Then keep running it around the back of the seat http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993043.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993101.jpg Step Five Run the wire into the seam of the access panel down leading to the arm rest cubby http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993167.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993387.jpg I removed the ash tray, and the ash tray housing to access the ash tray light circuit. I fed the power cable up underneath the parking brake. Once I had the wire where i wanted it, I tucked the wire up inside the console ( see the above picture ) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993591.jpg As per the image above I soldered the wires into the ash tray circuit. Once done I wrapped with electrical tape and re installed the ash tray. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993742.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421993790.jpg Sorry for any mistakes and Fred/ Charles please add in if i did anything wrong! Hopefully this helps as a reference for you guys. PS Fred thanks for making such an amazing product! |
Aw, man! My inferior superiority complex hurts, haha!
You are correct, Fred! :D Ashtray light circuit http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...93162BC7FB.jpg Don't mind me, folks. Nothing to see here. Carry on. |

Brake lights sounds like a good idea. I'm also trying to source out a couple of the wire mesh deflectors to complete the look. Didn't even know those existed until I saw them on your cars :) |
Yeah, I'm in the same boat as Charles. Mine have been stuck at Customs for over 4 days now! I am hoping they get unstuck before the weekend at least, so I receive them next week. Keeping my fingers crossed!!
