No problems, all intact, looks awesome. Need to schedule some "me" time to install it :P .
Oh, and what also very neat......didn't get dinged a dime in taxes by the Post Office! Thanks Fred!! |
Got around to installing my Skybreaker the other day. I decided to use the factory phone plug for switched power and it was easy to locate and connect.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436297308.jpg
This small piece of carpet under the dash slides toward the frunk and exposes the forward console area. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436297546.jpg The four wires are Brown- (ground), Yellow- (mutes radio if phone in use), Green- (switched power, 12v when key is turned to accessory), Red- (continuous 12v, not switched). http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436298024.jpg Spliced into ground (brown) and switched (green) wires and soldered. Apologies for focus and soldering abilities. :) The rest was running wires as others have done. Thanks to BruceH for the velcro mounting idea. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436298301.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436298617.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436298719.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436298799.jpg I'll post a night pic when I get a chance. |
I should have mentioned, if using this plug it was easy to find. Once the small piece of carpet is removed, just reach in and feel around.

I used a plastic trim removal tool from Harbor Freight to tuck the wires. Nicely done ccjazz!

I'll try to get a picture of it later on, but I actually connected mine to the rear parking lights via the bundle of wires that run through the b-pillar trim where the seat belt is mounted. Super easy to get to (tough to find the right wire in the bundle) and short. No need to run wires into the center console.

I was thinking about that, or the rear defrost wiring. I wasn't sure how I would find switched power controlled by the ignition switch position so went with the phone plug option. Wanted to avoid drilling holes too. I'd like to see how you wired that up. |
Quite Pleased with myself :)

I got mine installed today, the process went very well. Thanks to all for the tips. I went with the phone plug under the centre console, it was easy to get to and easy to find. Also happy with my colour selection :) Fred, your product adds a lot and modernizes the look significantly!

Fred,
I know I promised to cool my heels but I'm jealous of all these guys installing their sky breakers. Can you update? Thanks, Larry |

Where was this purchased? A little information please. |

For these new coated ones, what is the best way to clean them?

Thanks Fred, you did a great job getting them coated with the protective stuff. Mine finally arrived yesterday and I fitted it, but I decided to temporarily use a 12v SLA Battery for power source all tucked away nicely in the glove box. Switch on and off via the dimmer switch currently will probably connect a remote RF to it for a trial. I may hard wire it eventually. matey. |

Yay, it arrived! And it works! Now I just have to find time to install it. Great job Fred, thanks. Stay safe with that typhoon bearing down on Shanghai. |

I recommend using the contact form on his website. Please keep in mind that these are quality items and he is just one guy. I know Fred, and I guarantee you he is working diligently on the orders in the order in which they were received. Please hold fast, friend. :) Charles |
I'm thinking Fred might be a tad pre-occupied with weather at the moment:eek:
Thousands evacuated as super typhoon bears down on Shanghai - Channel NewsAsia Hope you and the family are riding this out ok Fred....all the best! |
I finally found some time to install my Skybreaker. I mounted the control dial inside the manual holder under the steering wheel, which I never use, and routed the wiring alongside my rear speaker install up the passenger side of the car (under the dash and sill). The cable is just long enough to reach. I tapped into the center console phone plug for power.
The most annoying part was cutting a hole in the windscreen frame, and then milling out a groove for the wire (still a work in progress). I drilled a small hole, and filed the rest of the opening, to avoid damaging the frame. I also had some trouble getting the Skybreaker into the frame. It's a very tight fit, but I finally got it. Fred, amazing work, and thanks for accommodating my modified design! I can still see clearly out my rear view mirror, but get to enjoy the 'Porsche' as well. Thank you! http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1436652254.jpg |

I also really (really) like the Amber kits. Can't wait to see one of those illuminiated on the Boxster car! I might have to swap mine. Also, anyone who wants to switch their LED color I have plenty left here and happy to snail-mail them over for the price of shipping (something like $8 loll). Sml envelop... unbelievebly expansive I know. An option for you guys. ALL RECENT ORDERS/KITS SHIPPED!!! Dropped 22 at the post office this very morning and updated your tracking no on the system. Been warned there is one-big-day delay on departure due to the massive Typhoon we recently got hit with... every jets were grounded for a good 24hrs. I hate tropical storms... scary as hell (for a Canadian anyway). I was locked indoor for the last 2 days. Dunno how you guys live peacefully in the south of the USA lolllll geez man :/ Not too often for me thank you very much |

Windex, amonia based, else = at your own risks! Let me know how it turns out, I'm lazy to give it a try (seriously, haven't tried anything else other than hot/warm water). Works just fine for me. I guess if you have a lot of finger prints in it you could use hand soap or at the most dish soap. (apologies for the late response btw, no excuses really - owe you one) Quote:

I got my SkyBreaker covered in fingerprints when I was installing it in the frame. I cleaned it with Plexus (same thing recommended for plastic rear windows) and a microfiber cloth with no ill effects. Although, I will probably use water from now on, unless it gets really dirty again.

Thanks Fred, got the Skybreaker this morning and fitted this afternoon. What a top quality piece of kit! Possibly the only one in the UK (unless any fellow Brits have ordered one too). I tapped into the ash tray light and removed the bottom of the console storage unit to feed the wires through after driling a hole in the base. Unfortunately these iPhone pics do not do it justice.

I swear that I'll get some good photos one of these days. It really requires photos taken at dusk to show both the car and the wind deflector (and not in the garage :p ).

Mounting hardware/brackets/extras
What exactly is needed to mount this windscreen?
I am trying to figure out what I need to by from Porsche for my 1998 Boxster 986, I don't have any center rear windscreen, only the honeycomb inserts behind each seat and thus no mounting hardware. |

You need the frame itself. I think Ive seen just the frames on fleabay but cant be sure. |
