roof shudders when opening/closing

When raising or lowering the roof on my 2000 Boxster, the roof usually shudders, a fast dug-a-dug-a-dug-a, as if something in the mechanism is sticking and needs lubrication. Is there any folk wisdom about how to address this symptom?

Garage
You need to check the various rods that move clamshell and the soft top mechanism where they attach at the v arms. There is an excellent information about the entire system here https://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/mikesporscheboxsterwebpages

Thanks, BFeller! I found photos at https://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/mikesporscheboxsterwebpages/clamshell-adjustment . There was nothing about this in the technical manual ("group 6", pages 61-89 to 61-93).
