Wiring
My car came with Cruise, my Tech said it was easy to turn on the OBC...will the stalk just plug in ??
I added a OBC Stalk and computer to my E36 years ago, I had to take the dash out and change a good bit of the wiring...but it was not a tough job at all.

The stalk will attach to the existing steering column but you will need to either make the hole for the stalk to come through the rubber or buy the 2 opening rubber.
Also you will need to make up a loom to connect the stalk to the cluster as per :

Picture is before upgrade started.

Danch this is what my display now looks like with the OBC enabled, maybe it can do more but all I was really interested in was the temp being displayed. When I use the OBC stalk to scroll the display only changes where the temperature is displayed.
Danch, what is a "loom"!!?? "Switch" I think your referring to stalk?
As far as the opening that is required in the rubber cover to accommodate the new stalk, I would not buy a new one because it is already there on the existing one, you just have to use a sharp blade and cut it out. This photo is before the 2nd stalk was addded.
Pdwight if you check out the previous pics in this thread you should be able to see how the new OBC stalk is connected to the control box. If you want more definition in the picture PM me and I'll send you the actual photo so you can zoom in on it. If you have an 03-04 the wiring harness you have to make up is not difficult. With the VW wires no soldering is necessary.

I got my plug, 999-650-513-40, at the local Porsche dealership for $10.11 and the wires, 000-979-009-E, at the Volkswagen dealer down the street from the Porsche dealer for $11.00 each and the blade connector for the ground at Home Depot, 10 for $2.12.
I had the dealer enable the OBC last fall and just got around to doing my install last night. Thanks for the info for 2003-2004 cars. This was very helpful.

For those wanting to do this DIY, there is a stalk on eBay at a pretty good price. I have no affiliation.

So in trying to make sense of this mod, is it easier to swap the complete 4/stalk to a 3/stalk car by adding the extra cable for the OBC function? Mine is 02. And then enable OBC function?

I just swapped the stalk from the 4 stalk to my 3 stalk. Buy the harness from PDwight.

Hi Folks.
I just gone through an OCB / CC upgrade in mine 2004 2.7 986. Went fine, but only partially
OCB works while CC not.
When I turn the key (before starting the engine) all LEDs are on. Also green LED from CC appears - it wasn't before the up. But when engine is on nothing happen, pressing the button on the stalk doesn't turnt the light on of CC.
I'm in a fix...
Could it be faulty 4-stalk controller or some connection issues ?
Regards,
Tomasz

Cześć Tomasz!
Tell us exactly what you did. Did you reprogram using a PIWIS?
I did the full install on an early model, including adding the pedal actuator, sensors, and wiring. I then did a quick write-up on the Porsche Club Poland forum.

The first time I did this, I was able to add the OBC stalk (removed from a donor 4 stalk) to the 3 stalk in the car, without having to remove the steering wheel. It made the process much easier.

Hi Folks,
Thank you for your response. Finally I found the fix.
After installing all HW modifications I completely forgot to activate CC in 2 places: Instrument Cluster and DME. I've only activated CC in Instrument Cluster and that caused such behavior. Activating CC in DME as well solved the issue
Greetings!

Don't bin it, put it for sale, I have actually seen people ask about it before. I bet there is someone that wants to try to add CC to their 2.5 Boxster.

For anyone looking to do this upgrade, I saw this stalk this morning on eBay. All you care about is that he OBC stalk works which it says it does. Just remove the stalk and add it to yours. I don't have any affiliation with the seller, I just thought I would pass it along.

I've purchased an OBC stalk which was previously retrofitted but they had cut off the original connector and installed their own. Not a worry, I can make a harness to suit. But, what are the pinouts for the stalk?
I found the following on Pelican Parts:
Boxster 2001-2004
Connector Pin #2 Gauge Cluster Pin #23 Select Mode Down
Connector Pin #3 Gauge Cluster Pin #22 Speed Alert/Gong
Connector Pin #4 Gauge Cluster Pin #21 Select Mode Forwards
Connector Pin #5 Gauge Cluster Pin #24 Select Mode Backwards
I'm a little confused at "Speed Alert/Gong". The stalk has Select Up and Down, Enter (push?), Escape (pull?)
I've connected a multimeter to the earth and each pin and have found that on mine is:
Red = Down - So Pin #2, connect to #23 on cluster
Yellow = Up - assuming Pin #3 then and connect to #22 on cluster?
Blue = Push - So Pin #4, connect to #21 on cluster
Black = Pull - So Pin #5, connect to #24 on cluster
Can anyone please confirm?

I am going to upgrade my Boxster S 2002 ROW with CC stalk, reading sevral treads I found two verison for wiring refere to model yeare 2001-2002.
On the majority there indication to link a wirw from the cluster to DME on soem other is wrote this not necessary doe the fact that after 2001 new instrument cluster does not require this conenction.
Someone as more details?

No need to connect to DME
Or at least on USA cars, I have manufactured many harness to retrofit a 4 stalk. You need a common or ground and the wires that go to the instrument cluster....no need to run any more wires.
