I am doing something similar with the Parrot Asteroid Smart. it runs Android and there are a few OBDII apps on the Asteroid market, more if you want to side load from the Android market.
I got a very cheap Bluetooth dongle connected to the Parrot no problem

I'm using torque Pro at the moment.

There are a lot of gauge choices (and you can make your own style) with both Torque (android) and dash command (android, ios).

my '99 non-s doesnt support oil pressure or temp, but alt voltage and actual water temperature, engine vacuum, MAF air rate, timing, O2 sensor voltages etc are some of the good ones.

Did any of you have difficulty moving the radio down to the storage bin area? It seems like my cdr220 won't fit more than 3/4 of the way in the slot. Doesn't seem like anything blocking it and I don't want to push too hard.

I had that issue. There was a little tab sticking out in the lower shelf and I ended up filing it down to get the radio to slip in smoothly.

In setting-> general-> auto lock

Make the timeout never. You'll need to enable the accessibility switch control to lock it after the cR turns off though.

If the ipad is jail broken then you can download activator and have the ipad auto lock when the tablet stops charging (car turns off) and never lock while it's charging (car is on)

Touching it gives you several choices. To lock the screen, touch the button, select device and then lock screen, viola! You can also rotate the screen, adjust volume and other items. You can move it any where you want on the screen. Love the new wallpaper

There are no dumb questions Like Shehadehd said, go to Settings>General>Autolock and select "Never" and the iPad will stay on.

Bruce when you had the original setup with the CDR220 and the iPod adapter did your mini charge? Mine will detect and play audio, but it says "not charging" next to the battery meter.

Yes, it charged. It also displayed not charging but it did in fact charge. It was nice because the CDR-220 always provided power to the iPad even with the key out of the ignition. My after market Pioneer only charges when the the ignition is on, so if I don't drive the car for several days, sometimes the iPad battery level is low.

Take a look at this thread:
iPad Mini in-dash install [996 MkII] - 6speedonline.com Forums

Lots of great information. I bought a used horseshoe and kept my original in case I want to go back to stock. Also didn't want to practice on my OEM horseshoe I bought it from Oklahoma Foreign on eBay. Take your time and it is all pretty easy. If you read through the above thread, you won't have a problem

Well I finished my install and I think it came out great! I love it! I was able to score a 32gb iPad mini with Verizon lte for a steal on CL. I am nervous of battery drain if the car sits for a week and the iPad is charging the whole time, but I guess it's a low amp draw. Also does anyone know how to remove the pins from the Becker harness? I accidentally cut a wire close to a pin on the iPod harness on the sharp metal. Need to remove pin and repair.

Finally there was a wire with a female spade connector that was ok the back side of the cdr220 it's paired in the same harness as the variable wipers. What does this do? I didn't reconnect because it wouldn't reach. Would this have anything to do with my Becker seemingly losing it's display backlight?

If you tapped into the 4-pin molex for the optional phone then the iPad will stop charging when the car turns off. I would recommend making sure it charges off a switched 12v line

I had to move some pins when I installed my Pioneer HU with the METRA harness. I used some small screwdrivers to release the prongs on the pins, a real PITA. You might try this tool:
http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-56500-Terminal-Tool/dp/B0009OR906

A google search shows lots of info on removing pins. As far as the other wire, not sure about that. I reconnected everything when I moved the CDR-220. Glad you like it though!

The 4 pin molex for the optional in-car phone has 4 wires - 12v always hot, 12v switched, signal, ground.

Be sure to tap the switched 12v wire or you will definitely kill your battery - the ipad mini and most other comparable tablets use (most of the time) 2 amps @ 5V to charge

I agree! Take a look at the Escort radar detectors with the Escort live. The app works great on the mini and you are still able to control your music within the Escort app. I generally keep Escort up unless I am using the maps for directions. But even the maps can run in the background, speaking the directions while Escort is looking ahead and playing the music. No double din can do all of the things he mini ipad can do. Great job on the install! It looks great

Thanks Bruce!! I was actually just looking at both Escort live, and the new V1 app to determine which route I will go with!
