Ipod adapter

I'm thinking of ordering this. Since I don't have a CD changer, I should be able to use the port in the back of my CDR220. I'm interested in everyone's feedback. Thanks.

I've had nothing but bad experiences trying to use AUX on the Becker radio to act as an iPod interface. On three occasions my iPod(s) got smoked because power somehow got shunted by this method.

I got one of their units for using the AUX input and the headphone jack on my phone. Works great, and didn't even have to take the radio out to install it (remove the cupholders on top, and plenty of room to feel around to plug in the cable).

Do you have a CDR 220?

MConte05 01-06-2013 11:48 AM

Yep Yep. A CDR220

I have not been able to figure out how to switch the radio into Aux mode. Is this feature not available until I install the adapter?

MConte05 01-06-2013 03:27 PM

You have to "enable" AUX on the CDR220. I can't confirm if these steps are exactly right, as I don't remember what site I checked (I was frustrated and sitting in my car looking at sites on my phone), but this sounds about right

You just need to enable the "AUX input mode" on the CDR 220. To do this, press the TP button for about 10 seconds. This will take you to the "BECKER 1" menu. Turn the tuning dial until you see the "AUX OFF"selection. Then press one of the soft buttons with an arrow above it to toggle the AUX mode to ON.
Now, not sure if you will be able to "select" it until you have a cable. But when you do get the cable, should be able to select it as an input with no issue, just have to press the S button.

:)

Thanks! You are a big help.

I have the iP-BKR2. Works great with no issues. I also have the CDR220.

I think what you used is better since it states specifically it is compatible with the CDR 220. During the install, did you remove the CD holder panel or do you have a compartment? If so, how did you remove the compartment?

rcbox2k1 01-07-2013 02:46 PM

For those that couldn't remove panels to access the radio and install the adapter, what did you use to remove the radio? I heard about getting keys....how much are they? Is there a substitute I can use?

Yes, I removed the CD holder and got a bin from Pelican. I got the keys from Suncoast. The CD holder comes out easily. Once you take the side panels off, you will see. I Dremeled a slot in the upper right corner of the shelf to slide the iPod chord through.

Here is the info for the shelf:

Save your money.

Take out the cupholders, then you can easily slip the cord into the back of the CDR, and then remove the cubby pocket and can run the cord through the back. I drilled a small hole in the back corner of the cubby pocket where you can't see it, and ran the wire through that.

I was trying to find the right radio keys, and was going to buy a set, until I was fiddling around trying to repair my cupholders and noticed how much room there is back there. Don't even need tiny hands!

I have a bin instead of the CD holder. Do I just pull it out or are there clips/screws?

MConte05 01-08-2013 07:54 PM

Pretty sure you just take out the rubber mat, and just yank on it. From what I recall, it just has 4 tabs that snap it into place.

I found a radio-transmit adaptor in the bargain bin for $30. Scans / finds stations for you and pre-sets. Works GREAT if you stay in your local area, but you have to re-scan if traveling.

Excellent low budget option. Now about those factory speakers...
