Evaporative Emmision Canister

So, I get a quote from my "local" Porsche service to replace my EEC because it is completely clogged and causing that bright orange disc on the dash to shine. All they want is a measly $1100 to do it. I have generally just re-set the code. What are my options? Can the EEC be disconnected, re-routed, cleaned or what? What damage am I doing at this point? The beast is a 1998 and has 91K on it.

I meant "Emission"
