Hello all,
It was time for a clutch change on my 2001 boxster and I decided to replace the IMS as well. The cheaper pelican kit was my original plan but after I found I had a dual-row bearing decided to switch to the LN kit instead of using spacers etc.. with pelican's single-row bearing.
Locked the pulley at TDC, locked bank-1 cam and removed all three chain tensioners. Managed to get the old bearing out without too much fuss.
But now the new LNE bearing just doesnt want to go in. I've tried freezing it and all that. Checked the dia of new and old bearing and shaft ID but nothing seems out of place. Here's a little video to clarify things further.
Looks like you are not using enough force in driving the bearing into place. I froze my installation tool with the bearing as well just to help maintain a cold environment during installation.
Note: This is not an install that is lightly tapped into place...once you get it going, drive it all the way in and get it done. Your bearing is warming up and the longer you take the larger the diameter will become.

actually what you see is just my attempt for the video. I've tried for multiple days now and also a lot more force. So i just want to make sure there isnt any other possibility at all.
Also what is at the other end of the shaft? What do i risk damaging by using excessive force?
Hello Hakim.
please update us with your progress. i'm about to preform the IMSB retro fit myself, and very curios to find out how you solved your issue.
thanks.
Meir.
He threw the hammer away and the bearing went right in...
This is embarrassing but I don't really familiar with Some of the slang.
That means he just needed to hit it harder?
(better embers myself now then later)
a dead blow hammer absorbs a lot of the impact from the strike, so when hitting the install tool, a lot of the force went into the hammer instead of the tool so it was like being "tapped" instead of "hit."
jakes suggestion was to use a hammer that will deliver most of the force of the strike, after which he believes the installation completed.

...it is like a mass damper of sand or beads in there
Not knowing much about this installation I have to ask if there is a way to press the bearing in ....guess its all on the outer race so it should be fine
