Rear lid emblem layout measurements
I've had several requests for some measurements on my rear emblem, so here they are.
Do not follow the curve of the lid or it will look silly. This curve looks nice from all angles and actually looks straight when viewed from the rear at drivers eye level. Letter spacing is 7/8" at the middle of the letters(it will be slightly more at the bottom and slightly less at the top due to the curve). The "S" is exactly centered on the lid at 16 1/2" and 2" from the bottom rim of lid. All measurements are exact, not approximations. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...CAA7461900.jpg |
Which?
Terrific, thanks, and it looks fantastic!
Which emblem did you use, though? Suncoast sells two: one that is $54 (shown on the back of a 911), and one that is from the Panamera for $48.91. |
It's the Panamera or Cayenne...Can't remember which. Got it from Suncoast, so if they don't have the Cayenne, then its the Panamera.
Thanks, BTW. ;) |
here is my picture of emblem

Particlewave, that's pretty nifty! Thanks for the measurements; this looks like a great project to do one day.

Thanks Kenny! ;)
It's definitely an eye catcher on the Glacier White. :D |

I spent a lot of time on this one, but hey, once its on it's on!
Did the OEM removal with dental floss, then polished it up. Didn't look bad, but something was missing. Always intended to do the Porsche emblem anyway. Talked to Suncoast and wasn't comfortable buying sight unseen. So I went to local LA dealer and received an education on Porsche rear deck emblems. After two trips to them, I got the right one. Well kinda'. We ultimately did a comparison of several Porsche's (Panamera, 911 and Boxster) on their lot and all were different than the strip. Suffice it to say each install is custom, not a peel on, peel off operation. Then after going to several official Porsche body shops, it was clear each letter has to be set individually even if if looks good on the strip tape. One shop had a $3,000 template (they said), but said it wouldn't fit on my 2004 986. Plus I know shops that do it every day know how to do it better than me. (Of course). So I paid them $65 plus a dozen Subway cookies to put in on. It has the right curvature, spacing and placement. It is to the 2013 Boxster spec and I left off the Boxster emblem. It really updates the car! |

Any chance you can refer me to the shop that set the Porsche letters for you? I would much rather pay someone with experience to do this for me. Can I see a picture of how it turned out? Thanks! |
It was Eli's Collision Repair of Los Angeles. They're on 3rd St just east of the Beverly Center and are the preferred Porsche Auto Body Shop for Downtown LA Porsche. Good people too.
Eli's Auto Center - Mid-City West - Los Angeles, CA I'll get a pic up shortly, but it looks really good! |

I bought the Porsche emblem from Downtown LA Porsche. It was a little more money than Suncoast, but I wanted to make sure what I was getting without dealing with a mail order return.

Here's a shot of the emblem installation.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1378243711.jpg

Not sure what color you're driving, but I liked the contrast of the chrome on a silver car. Also you'll note the spacing is greater from the edge of the trunk lid to allow for the new Boxster emblem later on.
