Upgrade to Litronics - Help with ballast!?

I have an interesting question here. I have the opportunity to purchase a non-working litronic for my 986 (2002 986S). The headlight is in mint condition visually. Apparently the ballast "went out" or is not working. I assume the bulb was switched and the headlight still did not work so you can say the ballast is the problem.

What I am wondering is if I can just use the housing? (I will benefit from the clear housing which is aesthetically nicer than the ambers I have, as well as having the beam pattern of the litronics).

Is there any way I can use one of those cheap aftermarket eBay type ballasts to somehow re-wire the old ballast, or just bypass it all together? Whether it is a D2S cheapo kit off eBay or a H6 or H7 or whatever? I have an old cheapo ballast laying around from when I had it on my factory halogens. (if it makes any different, I DO have a working factory litronic for my OTHER headlight but I can always purchase new bulbs for both sides so they match).

If anyone can help I'de appreciate it. The reason why I'm interested in this is because I can get this non-working/housing headlight for just a couple hundred bucks. Just want to know what are my options...
