Same results. Very difficult to see in either case. One key is a sunny warm day so there is no moisture trapped inside the windshield and so the glue cures via ultraviolet.

I had to laugh when I saw your post. I had a stone chip occur on my Boxster earlier this year. I skeptically bought the $10 DIY repair kit from AutoZone figuring I'd give it a try then drop real money for a new windshield. To my amazement the kit worked like a charm.
