Still Looking to buy a 986...
Hi again,
Reposting with a few more details after seeing 10 Boxsters in the last 10 days or so in incredibly bad conditions.
I'm actively looking to buy a Porsche Boxster 986. According to the market (leaving out BAT BS), I have $15K cash to spend on something that has had the IMS, RMS, clutch, and general maintenance done and documented.
I'm willing to spend $10K for anything that doesn't have the above but at least doesn't have cracked seats, a non-working top, scratches, paint damage, or dents.
Ultimately, I'm looking for a silver metallic one, but I'm open to other colors as well. Unfortunately, the interior must be black though.
If you know, have heard of, seen, or are thinking of letting one go within the above specs, please hit me up.
I'm willing to pick up a car as far as 300 miles from Los Angeles. ( CALIFORNIA ONLY - MANUAL ONLY )
Thanks

You may have luck on Autotrader.com A quick glance showed a couple that might fit, but nothing perfect. I am not endorsing anything, but saw these:
Sell the hardtop and have a black interior installed?

The top isn't perfect. Is the spoiler stuck up or did they do that for the pics?

Thanks @78f350! I'm planning on going to see the one in Costa Mesa. According to the dealer, the spoiler was lifted up for picture's sake. I've already contacted him and asked a bunch of questions. Although I'm trying to stay away from dealers due to the lack of vehicle history and additional fees and taxes, it seems like I don't have a choice. I've found a lot of interesting ones on Facebook Marketplace, I must say, but no one seems to be responding to the ads. I'm new to Facebook, so I'm wondering if most of the ads are fake or scams.

Boxsters!
Hi Stef914,
I purchased my first gen 1 Boxster using Craigslist and the second using Offerup. The second one had 68k miles and I was able to buy it for $7k. The body has about 2 dozen dings and the seat leather was shot, but you can purchase decent new covers from Lseat.com for $350 and have a good local upholster install them for around $500-$600.
Also plan to spend and additional $5-7k to refurbish all the parts for a 20 year old car. I needed a new starter, coolant expansion tank, thermostat, O2 sensors, spark plugs, hood and trunk struts, spark plugs and tubes, and brakes. I changed the water pump, spark plugs and coils as preventative maintenance. Higher mileage cars and you will probably want to have the fuel injectors cleaned or buy rebuilt units from GB remanufacturing. I recommend using RM European for parts, they typically ship next day and if your in LA area they have a distribution site there so parts will arrive in 2-3 days.
Ultimately I invested about $9k in the suspension alone (spec Boxster PSS9 setup), so I could have a nice track car for PCA DE/TT. Of course, to save $$$ I did all the basic maintenance and upgrades myself except for corner balancing, alignment and upholstery,
These are cars are the biggest bang for the buck in Porsche world today. I really wanted a 911SC but if you look at power to weight, the 97-99 Boxsters are on par and have way better suspensions. If you bring them up to good operating condition, do some simple light-weighting and improve the suspension, they are simply amazing. Good luck with your search, that second Boxster took me 2 years to find, but good cars and deals are out there.

A 1997 5-Speed Boxster you maybe interested in
Hi Stef914,
I have a manual transmission Black on Black 1997 Boxster with sport package, custom Porsche wheels, and hardtop option that I purchased new. Exterior and interior are in very good condition. Was at Porsche repair shop for brakes. Shop called 3-4 days later to say the engine died.
I have gotten many years of great use. Looking to move on and provide a good home for the Porsche. If you are still in the market and have interest, please reach out.
Thanks,
CR
