Maytag's Modified '03 S for Sale
All:
With the racetracks being closed, I find I'm anxious to move-on to another platform. This happens for me, as I enjoy the modifying as much as the driving. maybe more sometimes. I know that I will never sell the car for what I've got into it. Not a chance. I ALSO know that I could part it out for MUCH more than I can sell the car for. But if I can avoid doing so, I'd like to. So I'd like to see if there's any interest among the community to buy me out for a fraction of the parts resale value. I'd be very happy to let the whole thing go, rather than spend 3 months parting, shipping, fighting for payment, etc etc. I've made a quick spreadsheet with the highpoints of what's included if someone made an offer (of course the whole car goes). I tallied what I know I can get for the parts on the list below (not what I HOPE I can get for them) and I'm really close to $20k. I'd accept a dramatically lower number than that. I'm realistic, and I don't want to spend the time to part it. frankly, if someone wanted to make some money, you could buy it all and part it yourself. Is there any interest amongst anyone here? Your car, with all its extras, would really be a leg up for somone wanting newly to get into a 986, particularly if they had aspirations for a dual-use car.
But I am very sad to see this post. I have enjoyed your comments and participation on this forum, and particularly your level headed emotionally mature insight revealed in some of the more charged discussions. Do you not have some compulsion to "finish" your car before moving on to a different platform? Or did you reach the plateau you were aiming for? Anyway BOL. |
Dude!
You do have another 986... yes? You're not going to be leaving us, are you? |

Honestly, for $15k -ish, this package is a hell of a bargain for somebody. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

Woody, Frodo, FrozenLinkage, Starter; thanks guys. I appreciate the sentiment. I may not disappear entirely. There are some things afoot. hehe

And... be certain to reveal the new forum upon which you'll be a member... ;) |
Bump.
It's gotta go.... or in June I'll be forced to choose which car to take to the track: the Porsche or the Ferrari. Hehe Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |
Drooling over this parts list. If only i wasn't selling as well
|
Sorry to see you selling this. I wish you were closer. $15k is a great price, but there is no way I could get all those extras to PA in the car. Where in Utah, near any airports?
|
I'm brand-new here, but I'd like to hear and see more about the car. Would you consider selling it without all of the extra parts? Oh, and why do you have to be way over there in Utah?:)
Utah is beautiful, breathtaking really. But I can't think of a cheap way to transport all of that down to the deep South. |

Transport? Why... you'd drive it home, and worry free. GLWP |
@ Stiggy:
I flew out and bought TIMCO's 550 SE just over 2 yr ago in SLC. Delayed departure for 1 day due to snow, so entertained ourselves skiing at Alta. Then drove it back to AL via the southern route with my 11yo daughter as copilot in a really great father-daughter trip. It was a good experience, and would have been so even if I had been alone, but having her there made it a lifetime memory. My first 986s was bought in Philly and driven back to AL. These are pretty good cars on the road. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the inspection was good. Ship by greyhound whatever won't fit. BOL |

Stiggy, what can I tell ya? I'd consider selling without all the extra parts, if that's of interest to ya. I might even split the cost of shipping or something. I bought it from PA, and the bill to get it here was about $800. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |
Oh, and yes: I'm 10 minutes from the salt lake international Airport. Plan things right, we could probably arrange for you to take it for a spin around the racetrack; I'm less than 30 minutes from Utah motorsports campus. (Formerly Miller)

May... PMd you.

Dude say it isn't so!!!!!
Let me know when you release the parts for sale. I will want roll bars and links for sure. |
In on the Ohlins suspension.

15 years ago, my in-laws suggested they were getting to an age where they were considering where their possessions would go when they passed.
Next thing you know, the whole family and neighborhood was at their home attaching their names to stuff. Many fights ensued. I watched my in-laws as their friendship was reduced to "things". I'm just saying..... Hahahaha ;-) Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

Yes, we have some unique environmental qualities around here. They're not ALL pleasant, hehe. But we are pretty fortunate. This time of year (without Covid) we can usually ski in the morning and then play 18 holes in our shirts & sleeves in the afternoon. |
Had it at the track this evening.....
Yeah..... i built a beast. ;-) She's a go-er! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

So I underestimated the event. I left the street-tires on, and the street brakes (ceramic pads, so they don't dust-up the wheels.... but don't use them at the track!). It had been raining, so the track was "green", and still wet in places. But we had a good time... and the sound is fun. |
Wow! Such awesome scenery - I'd find it hard to keep my eyes on the track!

Here's one they took of me in '06.... that view is spectacular. But it also comes with reduced power from a N/A motor.... (3500' altitude) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/DAN1590102901.jpg |
Great pic. Reminds me of Kenny Roberts at Suzuka (except for the YZR500 :>)
|
Fester! That IS a great photo!
Had no idea you did that. Never did much riding—only bikes owned by friends who’d (ill-advisedly) let me take them out for a spin, a mile or two (or three). Having always driven cars with clutches, I’d fool them into thinking I knew what I was doing—never had any trouble taking off smoothly (even with the clutch in my hand instead of at my foot). Loved the experience, just never got around to getting one for myself. But THAT…what you did! Man & machine, pushing the limits. Seriously cool stuff. My hat’s off to you—I’d be the first to admit: I’d find that absolutely terrifying. |
Okay y'all; for real this time.
Listing this at $12K. I'm happy to remove some of the "extras" (like the PST2, extra wheels, etc etc) to get the price down lower for you, if you'd like. But I think you're getting a heck of a bargain if you take it all for $12k. (Hint: I'm not going to remove the spare mufflers and give a $2k discount, for instance) This really is a perfect D/E or TT car. Or a great base for a race-car. There are lots of little details that matter at the track which aren't listed below. Things like the remote-fob activated cooling fans and engine-bay purge-fan. I've edited the original message below as necessary, to capture the car correctly. I've also added photos below of interior, etc. The thing is a monster at the racetrack (in a good way!); I can send you videos of some laps, if you would like. It's working really, really well right now. If you're following the other threads, you'll see that I'm working-through an Evap issue. That will be solved shortly. OR you can use it as a bargaining-chip. Quote:

Did you ever sell?
|
Quote:
Not even a nibble. Not a single email, text or inquiry. Neither here, nor any other place where I advertised. I guess it was uglier than I thought. So I parted it out. Eventually I put a bunch of body panels in storage as spares for the track, and sent a ton of parts to the landfill. SMH Thing was a track monster. And pretty. Not a single nibble. I've got a complete bose system (head unit, speakers, amp, etc) minus the shelf sub. I've got (2) complete sets of: DME/ Guage cluster / immobilizer / door, glove box, center console locks / ignition cylinder and keys. That's probably it. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |
Just wondering who bought the GT3 side skirts? I'm still looking for a set in case you decided not to install them.
Edit: oops, I meant to put this in the part out thread. |
I have some interest , what was the original interior and exterior of the car. I have an arctic silver s with a blue interior and top.
