CA Bay Area - For Sale - 2002 Boxster S

Hey everyone,

Unfortunately, the time has come for me to sell my baby. I love this car, but I don't have the time to keep up with the maintenance anymore and I'm trying to save up for my first house, so I'm looking to re-home her.

Details:
2002 Porsche Boxster S
89k miles
6 speed manual
2nd owner

Askings $8750 OBO - I believe this to be a fair price, but I am willing to negotiate on it to an extent.

The car is beautiful and drives great. It does have a few small issues which have been factored into the price, but it also has a ton of new parts.

Here is what has been fixed/done on the car since I have owned it:

New tie rods (inner + outer)
New front drop links
New sway bar bushings (front + rear)
New control arms (front + rear)
New track arms
New trailing arms
New struts (Bilstein B4)
New strut mounts (front)
New tires (Conti ExtremeContact DW)
New front wheel bearings
New rotors and pads (Front and rear)
4 Wheel Alignment (Alignment report included)
Wheel balancing @ a reputable shop
New driver side window regulator
New soft top with glass window

Issues with car:
1. Headlight switch sometimes does not turn on low beams - probably just needs cleaning
2. Passenger side window regulator intermittent - does not always go down a bit when you open the door. Easy fix.
3. Clutch is a little stiff
4. Needs a new Air/Oil separator. Doesn't smoke much/at all on startup, but sometimes a CEL comes on. I've had it checked and it is definitely the AOS. Not a major issue, but something to know about.

Thanks! Don't want to give it away, but hopefully someone finds this price to be fair.

Those XXXs were my original 2+ paragraphs of narrative... authored just around 6A this morning. I try to keep my ~6A posts family friendly. I'm trying.

In summary... don't let anyone feed you that line of **************** that "it's winter, you're selling a convertible"... or "The market is slammed with Boxsters"... or any other line of horse****************.

I believe your car to be fairly priced (Look at the work it's had. Parts and labor are saving the next buyer serious quid). Try to hold out on your asking price for so long as you can. Maybe even bump it to $9,500 and wiggle down to $8,900. You've got a nice car... it's a great value.

Get that little stuff fixed so the next guy has no grounds to spew any bull****************. Give the next buyer no room to bull****************.

Again, GLWS.

good morning ..

great looking car ..

I've been watching daily all of the ads on craigslist (went to see your ad there) for over 6 months now and a couple of comments if I may ..

- reevaluate your asking price upwards (unless you are in a hurry to sell)
- drop the OBO
- add more photos (inside, beneath etc and then more)
- add and stress options
- add how long you've owned and maintainance schedule you followed
- add maintenance records (get them to present to potential buyer)
- drop the 'trade' paragraph to the end
- add more photos

good luck

Why don't you just buy his car?

Everyone's an expert, I guess.

For me, when I see an ad that does everything you just said, then the car better really be something special.... like, "limited production, only 2 on the market currently," etc. Otherwise, I'm going to see all that blather and think "dood's an idiot, who thinks he's got something really special, and thinks I'm gonna pay for it". And then I move-on to another ad that is realistic in both asking price and description.

The very moment you list something in that ad that ALL of the cars on the market have (like leather seats, or air conditioning) I'm rolling my eyes. And when you use the word "rare" to describe a factory option like heated seats, or a color combination, or the aero kit, yeaaaahhhh.... now I'm laughing out loud at you.

This from a guy who has bought 76 cars in my lifetime (counting only the ones I've registered in my own name, mind you. Not the cars I've helped others buy)

Don't listen to Maytag. The reason he's bought 76 cars in his 83 years is because he never paid asking price.

"Oh. Someone sat in those seats." (deducts $653)

"The speakers have been used." (deducts $347)

"It appears the windshield has seen some weather." (deducts $592)

"The gas pedal looks like it has some wear." (deducts $1,529)

"The top has seen some sun." (deducts $456)

"Got some bugs in the front vents." (deducts $77)

"Visors still have stickers on them." (deducts $83)

"It only has 2 seats." (deducts $1,453)

You'd end up giving him $1,000 just to drive your car away.

Just razzing ya, May.

Haha I'm enjoying the suggestions and friendly banter here, guys. Good advice overall. I'll make a few edits to the CL ad later today. I'm not necessarily in a rush to sell, so I will definitely add a bit more effort to the post. I've got a few people coming to check the car out tonight so I'll see what happens and then go from there.

maytag ..

I'm no expert .. nowhere near nor claim to be ..
was just trying to pass along some assistance as I've been immersed in the market here in San Francisco for 6 months ..
and read every ad on Craigslist ..
looked at probably 30 ..

and bought mine 2 weeks ago

everyone is entitled to their own opinion ..

There's 2... maybe 3 people here who tolerate my humor (or attempts at it). I figured at the ~800 posts mark on this forum I could start the ribbing. I try it once in a while on the Rennlist board... but they've a slower crowd.

Have a great day, Sir.
