I actually found my first Boxster S online in Alabama, while living in NYC. I made a deal with the guy over the phone, then had my dad drive down from near Memphis to inspect, pay, and bring back the car.
It was a month before I could get down there to pick it up. He had put 1400 miles on the car with no major trips!
A week after I pried the keys out of his hand, he began looking for another Box and wound up with the one I'm currently driving. He was crazy about the cars, and had planned to upgrade every two years with me taking the hand-me-downs at a nice price.
It's just a small part of my memories of my father, but we always bonded over cars, whether it was shopping for my first car with a ziploc full of twenties from my restaurant job in high school (he grounded me by confiscating the distributer cap!), having him trying to help diagnose starting problems with my old truck in college, or getting to play with german sportscars ten years later.
