2003 with 997 3.6

Copy and pasted CL ad, I know you all don't need to do research!!

"Here we go, with great sadness...

Selling my 2003 Boxster with 52,000 on the odometer. The 2.7 blew at 51,000 so over the last 8 months a COMPLETELY rebuilt 3.6 motor from a 2006 Carerra has been professionally installed, documented. ...along with a new clutch "while we were in there". It has 600 miles on it, so far. Fabspeed headers/sportcats and a Caymen exhaust. Also new is a full ROW M030 suspension with about 1000 miles on it(GT3 front bar and tarett links). It's silver with a black rag top and black interior. I also have an arctic silver hardtop with cover and wall mounting rack. Wheels are 2003, Boxster S, 17" with new tires. Interior is a 9.8 out of 10 and the exterior is about the same. Simple alpine head unit with ipod, bluetooth, usb and aux.(still have the becker) Less important are the clear corners w/ amber bulbs, nice Porsche sunshade, windstop, rear deck storage box, and bumper plugs... I love this car, it is extraordinary and rare. Do your research before contacting me, please. I'm selling for less than I have in it, trust me. I have loads of receipts. I'm not going to ship and I'm not letting folks drive it until money is ready to go. I'll take you for a ride with a down payment. I'll put pictures up tonight. ...and yes, it's very fast. Price has about $2000 wiggle room so I'm just looking for best offer, I don't "have" to sell so I'm not desperate. $30,000, Baltimore MD."

Pictures of '03 with the 3.6.

The first 2 shots from the front are before the suspension work. The long shot is after the suspension but it did settle a bit more after the picture. Interior is very straight forward. The seats do have the crests and are heated.

Nice car. How do the radiators handle the bigger engine ? I have wondered about that since it looks like there is no center rad.

Please don't be stingy about test drives. Let the folks you feel good about drive it when they come look. Passion and emotion are good tools to use when selling a car like this. When we sold our first Boxster, I insisted the lookers take it for a ride. Some folks declined and some took the drive. I don't think the person who bought it would have if I had not insisted they take it for a drive. They took it for 4 drives that day. With me, with their son and then with the girlfreind. SOLD!

Being a buyers market, I got lots of calls but nobody came to look until my price went down 15% from my beginning asking price. That is when folks started coming out to look at it. It only took the third person to test drive to sell it. For me it was worth the risk. It was fully insured.

A quick scan of Auto Trader shows many 2003 Boxster S models in your area with similar miles having asking prices of mid teens to mid 20's. Of course there should be some value to the recent conversions. The down side to conversions is often much of the money you spent for the mods will not come back to you in the sale price. A good portion of the money spent on mods never really does. It is just the price you pay for your fun. You may want to keep the car for another year or two. Make it a daily driver an really enjoy it.

It is certainly a nice car. I know I'd like to drive it. Good Luck.

I appreciate the input Bill! The no ride clause was specifically for the craigslist ad to avoid 22 year olds coming out to see what it can do. If it's someone serious, then of course they can take it with me in the car. If money's floating around they can take their significant other to lunch with it! I've sold many a car giving rides and it is the best way, I just still haven't swallowed the 5 figure conversion bill enough to just let go. The market for Boxster S's doesn't really hit the niche since a 997's 3.6 is vastly different from the 3.2 they come with stock. Not to mention it hasn't even had it's first oil change. It's a blast to drive and own and it was and would be my daily but unfortunately I just had my third child and it's just not in the cards for the next couple years... It won't be the last though, promise.

...oops... and the radiators, so far so good. I haven't tested it on the track or anything but with very "spirited" driving temp hasn't even budged. The center rad was the next project.

Sounds sweet ! I dream of having 3.6 power in a Box. I would love to see the day when the Box is equal in power to the 911. Can you imagine ? Yeah I guess you can with your conversion. Porsche help me with my dream !

Go buy one then. This is a mid engine monster with far more balance than a 997, a convertible top, and a lighter curb weight. Totally different animals.

No, I didn't do the IMS upgrade. Since this was a 997 3.6 it has a much more stout IMS bearing (3rd revision I believe) and went with my shops suggestion that it wouldn't be necessary. You can be I'll be eagle-eying the rms area for any stray drops for as long as I might have it!!

I've got a lot of miles on my 3.6 and have never had a cooling issue with the stock 1998 radiators.
