Which SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?

Im confused, I have a 2000 non-S with a 3.4 996 engine and 996 front calipers and rotors. I recently installed headers and full exhaust.

Any ideas on which class I should run in? I dont expect to win because Im still learning, but I dont want to cheat either. Last time I ran in C-stock...

I think the engine and brakes put you in SSM, Super Street Modified. If the engine and brakes were from a Boxster/Cayman, you would be in ASP, A Street Prepared.

With the engine swap you have landed yourself in SSM. Hope you've got some sticky tires!

If this was a Boxster S, I would think that using the same 3.4 liter M96 engine used in the later 987 Boxster S would be an update as allowed in ASP, but with this being a standard Boxster with improvements / updates it gets confusing to me.

Either way whether ASP or SSM, you may be way outgunned without many more improvements (wider sticky tires, coil overs, sways, LSD, adjustable camber, etc). Obviously it's always best to start with studying the rule book before buying or modifying the car in any way.

With intake, exhaust, or suspension mods, the 986 S is in BSP. And the good news this year is that the WRX STI's got bumped up to ASP with the Vettes. Now the 986's competition is the Honda S2000. and Nissan 350Z..much better fight! Since the 3.4 was never a 986 engine, putting one in will bump you out of BSP.

I believe they moved the Boxster for 2012 to ASP. I ran in BSP last year, but the 2012 solo rules show the following classification for ASP.

Also, I believe that the weird rule on updating / backdating is that if cars are listed on the same line, then they are considered the same for updating / backdating of parts at will. The SCCA designates "Boxster & Cayman (all)" on the same line, so all models and all versions are considered to be the same car from what I understand. The SCCA does not seem to know or care what a 986 or a 987 is.

Personally, I quit messing with the SCCA when they refused to allow the Boxster in STR, and they never gave me any reasons at all in spite of my protests.
