Autocross R-Compound Tires???
Soo... Looking for 17" tires and I know most people not run either Hoosier A/R6's, or Kumho V710s... However, both of these have 225/45/17 available... Neither of them have 255/40/17 available, so what does everyone run???
I mean what other R-Compounds are actually competitive for comparable price?

I just started running NT-01's in December and love them. Reasonably priced too.

The real question is how competitive are your regional events and how competitive are you.
The A6 will likely be among the fastest tires for Autocross, but they are expensive and don't last long. I noticed they now make a 225/40-17 which paired with a 245/40-17 would work on stock rims. The smaller diameter 245 would also give you a bit of a gearing advantage.
Now if you are really competitive you should get wider rims in a 17 or 18 and run at least least 245F and 275R.

Sorry, nobody mentioned stock class.

Those A6's are awsome. The first time I put some on, I took FTD at the local auto-x against 911's, 'vettes, and heavily modified turbo civic. They are easily worth 3 whole seconds on a 60 second course compared to the "extreme performance Summer" tires (RS-3, AD08,StartSpec, RE-11)

A6 is top of the heap.. and running it 245 square works VERY well
Are you new at all this? Run the NT01's for a year before jumping to the go fast stuff!!

+1
One big spin in a parking lot AX on A6s and they will be flat spotted and useless. Throwing a $1400 set of fresh, flat spotted tires in the dumpster stings a bit.

I like the V710's.. they typically *only* win a handful of classes at the SCCA National's whereas the A6 cleans up (they do have some off years)
DOT R:
1.A6
2.710
Better?

Are the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup or Toyo R888 not used in the US?
I was running the R888's but will now switch to the Pilot Sport Cup for the 2012 season.

888s are around but were unobtanium last year due to the tsunami in Japan. They are decent tires in the dry and good in the rain. MPSC are not very popular in Socal. They are similar in grip to NT01s, last 1/2 as long, and cost twice as much. NT01 offers a lot more bang for the buck.

Agree. But if you're looking for a deal on tires check with the guys who ran Boxster Spec last year on R888's. The spec series moved to RE-1's this year and there are a lot of new or almost new R888's sitting in garages that can't be used. I picked up a set of R888's this way for much less than a set of NT-01's.

Not true Just more BS being fed to you.
One person couldn't get tires from their typical supplier, so they switched to Hoosiers!!
The entire rest of the country managed to buy 888's no problem... hmm.. maybe there wasn't a problem Maybe the problem was SoCal? You know, the largest distribution of tires.. lol
The RA1's appear to be faster than the 888's. I really like the NT01's. Topless has them nailed down. I call him "King" of tire management.
