I got inspired to try it after your post, but failed. How hard do you push those little vents in on steps #2-4? I got the screw out and spent a bunch of time pushing on the vents trying to get them to move like the pictures show but to no avail.

The screw shows signs of being out before (slightly over-tightened). I thought maybe something had come loose and the original owner glued something in place? The snorkel is in there, so that's not what he was up to.
