				License Plate

			Hey everybody,
Can somebody please let me know what I need to mount a front license plate on my 2002 986? As of now, I've only got two square holes up there. I imagine I need a combination of (i) some sort of spacer hardware, to distance the license plate bracket from the rounded bumper, and also (ii) something that sticks into the square holes to receive the screws. Can anybody give me any guidance here?

Thanks!

Sunset offers the complete set of spacers, plate bracket, and screws fror bracket and license plate--all for less than 10 bucks. Try a phone order (503.641.8600 or 800.346.0182)--the online parts order system is maxxed out and slow.

BTW--- the spacers themselves have projections which are inserted into the square holes of the bumper. Orienting the spacers so the bracket is flush with both and perpendicular to the ground is a free test of your spatial abilities!

When you get your kit from whomever, be sure to toss the skinny black screws that come from Porsche. They are not nearly fat enough to spread the pastic bits behind the bumper cover and hold the frame to the bumper.

Head down to Home Depot with the black screws and buy a couple of sets of far thicker screws and it won't fall off in your garage when you graze it with your knee (which is what happened to me).

I gave up on it after the second time it fell off. The whole assembly is in my toolbox.

Hi Randall, The same thing happened to me and besides adding thicker screws i also added some good quality silicone ( GOOP OR GE II 100%) around the square shields before inserting them into the bumper and also put some silicone between the 2 spacers and bumper. The important thing to do before adding silicone is to clean with dish washing soap first, and if ever u decide to remove the plate, silicone can easily be pealed off nicely but solid enough to hold the plate in place.

Porsche should get a clue and use a better fastening system. Mine fell off as well. For now I am leaving it off. I really hate the look of it. I know I'll have to put it back on. More and more Calif. cities are ticketing for them, as more and more are using those camera tickets.

I've asked myself that question repeatedly! For all they get so right, there's a few things they got wrong and don't seem to care about fixing.

same i even lost the licence plate. had to buy a new one, now i keep it in my trunk. i tell cops that the bracket is on order and look how cheap the old ones
are. has been working so far. but i will try the fatter screws, when i get my new bumper next week. hopefully i dont lose this one, its personalized!

You will also save the sales tax (8 1/4%) if you order from Sunset.

Not everyone can go without them. For us here is California we need them and if we don't have them it is a perfect excuse to get on the bad side of a police officer and gives them a cause to pull you over. On top of that since the ticketing has been extended to the meter maids around here, it can get expensive since it seems like you get a ticket almost every time you park.

With all that said, I don't run one in the front.

I was ticketed by a MeterMaid years ago when i was 19 for no font plate and i let that mofo goto collections LOL, I just called and said i lost the ticket and the person on the phone said the metermaids arent allowed to ticket for no front plate UNLESS its in combination with another more serious violation like double parked or parking meter out of time. So he removed it from the system for me.

I did get it. It was sitting in the front trunk. There were no holes drilled in the front bumper though. The dealer stated that when I got my plate and if I wanted to they would drill holes and install it.
