Even if you could remove the hardtop while driving, do you just throw it alongside the road until you want to come back for it?
On a rainy drive, my top may go up and down 2-3 times in an hour. Can't do that with a hard top.
For me buying a hardtop would be like buying a tux. It's a very nice look, but I'd only wear it once or twice a year at the most.
