inner guts for key caps

Is it possible to purchase the inner parts for a boxster key cap...the inner ring is missing therefore won't hold the battery in place.

European Performance in Raleigh, NC is great. I have a 01 2.7, and they just replaced the RMS, clutch, fly wheel and a few other things. They specialize in P-Cars and are very good at what they do.

Louden in Dallas Offers True Peace Of Mind and Reliability

I used to take my 98 Boxster to Park Town Porsche (in Plano off 190) where I bought it and they would charge me exorbitant prices for everything. They wouldn't just change the oil, they wanted to charge for the annual maintenance package of $650 plus they would throw in all sorts of other charges. I couldn't get my Boxster in there for less than $1,000.

My car is my baby and in mint condition with only 20,000 actual miles. So you can imagine, I am very picky.

I also have a 97 BMW M3 4 door with 125,000 miles that has been babied as well. We used to take the BMW to Classic BMW. Also crazy high prices.

About 3 1/2 years ago I found Louden Motor Cars in the vicinity of 35/635. It is located in an the beaten path location but they have done amazing work on both the M3 (which needed quite a bit over the past 3 years) and the Boxster. They never try to overcharge and talk everything over before they do anything.

I can't recommend them enough:

Louden Motor Cars

F: 972-243-3137

Ask to speak directly to James Moir who is the Vice President of Operations and Service Manager. You can email him at - jmoir@loudenmotorcars.com

The other folks are all good but James will take time to discuss everything with you personally. He is a great guy and brings his dog Beau to the shop.

I have tried other shops besides Louden and Park Town and have not felt as confident. In fact, Louden found a scraping problem on the front wheel flap which was causing a slight burning smell that no one else could find. Also, they are always providing free tips on special maintenance.

There is only one downside to Louden. They are not open weekends. Their hours of operation are: M-F 7:30 - 5:30. Its important to call or email for an appointment. They are busiest on Mondays and Tuesdays and least busy on Wed and Thursday.

They can arrange a tow for you but it is best to get some names from them and arrange it yourself. It will be cheaper if you pay for the tow yourself. I learned that the hard way when I needed a flat bed tow.

BTW Louden ONLY works on BMW, Porsche and Mercedes. They do many of the Dallas celebs.

West LA Porsche Repair Shop

My “new” '99 Tip presented with a small pink drip spot on the garage floor and a new “growl” left rear, and it requested a visit to the Porsche doctor. First time for repairs since I bought the car, so I didn’t have a good shop yet. My father always trusted Otto’s in Venice with his old 356, so I thought I’d try them. I was very pleasantly surprised. The lead technician did a “quick listen” and made an initial diagnosis, which turned out to be absolutely correct. Guess the previous owner had bottomed out the car and a coolant leak finally developed. The Water pump was also going south (the growl), so I had the work done and it has been running great since. Reasonable price, too.

Otto’s new lead technician loves Boxsters and other newer P-cars, which is kind of a change since Otto's Venice was formerly not known for working on water-cooled Porsches. They did a great job on mine. Now the car runs right between the “eight and the zero” in 180 and I have a new shop for the future.

They also dump all the computer codes (at no additional charge) when they have a car in for service. That's a great added bonus!

great service

My wife and I set out from the Seattle a little over a month ago for an extended vacation to see the Southwest United States. We had just recently purchased a used 2000 Boxster S to do this in. The car had fairly low miles (30K), we had all of the service work done as well as a complete inspection, including a leak and compression test, we were ready to go.
And naturally we had a problem the second day out, despite all the precautions. Just north of Ogden the car mysteriously quit while traveling down I-84. I was able to get it started and drive a few miles when it did it again. No fun in the blazing sun on the shoulder of the freeway I can tell you that. Again I was able to get it started and this time made it to a motel in Ogden.
The next morning I called Ken Garff VW-Porsche-Audi in Orem Utah (Provo) and was quickly surprised at the quick response I got. After a discussion with the mechanic I headed their way. When we arrived we were given quick and courteous service. Within a few hours the problem was found and repaired. It turned out the heat and vibration caused a faulty ground connection, which the superb mechanic at Ken Garff quickly fixed. We got our car back, washed and running flawlessly.
We continued our trip and made it home safe. It was one of the most memorable trips we have taken and a big part of that was the wonderful little car we took it in.
This isn’t the end of the story though, at least as far as Ken Garff Porsche goes. A few weeks later we were up at Bryce Canyon enjoying the scenery and decided to put the top up since it was getting hot. It wouldn’t go up. I read the manual, checked the fuses and fiddled around, no luck. I was contemplating getting the tool kit out and raising it manually but remembered the Ken Garff service department. We drove until we had cell phone service; I got their number off the receipt from the first repair and gave them a call. With in a few minutes the service department put me on with a mechanic and he quickly diagnosed the problem (e brake micro switch) and told me how to fix it, taking all of a minute. If I lived in Utah there is no question where I would take my car for repairs, Ken Garff VW-Porsche-Audi!

Porsche specialist in Campbell, CA

I just wanted to introduce myself and get on this great list being put together. My name is Alden Flint and I'm fresh out of a local dealership. I just opened my own shop in August and I'm trying to bring in more Porsche customers. I've been pretty active on the babblers forum so some of you may have seen me on there. Anyway I'm here to help with any technical issues and of course to provide any work needed. My prices are usually about half of what the dealership charges.

Question for Alden Flint

To bad you are not in Florida, anyway. I have a 2000 S and I am going through the brakes at this moment. I am replacing the brakes and found Balo rotors and they are German made and very reasonable(any comments on themz0. From some other posts, guys have had no problems with them. Now my question is, when I return from a ride, I smell what is either hot brake pads and maybe oil residue coming from my passenger side intake vent. This car was a one owner, super nice car with 64,000 miles when I bought. Runs, very strong and basically I can find no problems other than the rotors where badly worn and needed to be replaced. I am removing the calipers and giving them a thorough cleaning and check. This weekend I will finish the back brakes and I was planning on pulling the rear underneath engine cover for a better inspection to see if their is any oil that maybe the culprit of the odor. What should I look for...anything in particular or not ordinary like a valve cover or spark plug tube or even a RMS. I grew up in a auto machine shop my dad owned and have built many a muscle car and rods from nothing. And I have owned a lot of sports cars. This Porsche is my first and it truly is a great piece of engineering and fun to drive. My wife love's too.

Find your local mechanic/porsche specialist

I'm in the North Sacramento, CA area (Lincoln). Does anybody have a recommendation for a wheel alignment shop that understands Boxsters (986)?

I want to use the car for Autocross, DE's and as a daily driver, so, the shop hopefully knows something about racing too.

The car is a stock 1997. But, I will be using Toyo R888 tires. 225 45 17 on 7.0" rims on the front and 255 40 17 on 8.5" rims on the back. (BSX class)

Thanks,
Mark

Open on Weekends?

Hi guys, do you know of any Porsche mechanics who work on weekends? I noticed all service centers are closed on weekends and I'm not available to get maintenance done on weekdays.

I live in the East Bay area of California.

Thanks!

Leslie Beauchemin 05-04-2010 07:10 PM

I know of a mech. in Santa Cruz

contact Tim at Fastlane Porsche in Santa Cruz. He takes care of my 1999 Boxster and my son's 1988 Carrera. He's great, and his price is right (meaning exceedingly better than a Porsche dealer).
I cut and pasted this from my FB, this is a friend of a friend in the bay area, I actually live in Reno. I don't know if he works weekends but give him a call and see if he can or knows of someone. These people have several Porsches and I'm sure they have done the foot work. Hope this helps!

I have over 15 years of professional european repair experience, including Porsche,Audi, Mercedes, BMW, VW, Rover, Jag, and others. I also have a background in engineering(dropped out of UT as junior in ME). I have extensive experience from racing sports cars, drag racing, and even Indycar. Chassis setup is what I love to work on, but a difficult diag(electrical or drivability, etc.) is a lso fun. If anyone in here needs my services, don't hesitate to call, email, show up, whatever. Our rates are very reasonable and we have a very good warranty and a great reputation.

Need an alignment in the Seattle area

Or who knows which post # has the list of recommended shops, state by state. I've been through every post once already and know there are two listed in my area, but I guess I'm just too lazy to read through all the posts again.

Oh, and could there be another reason besides alignment that would cause my car to pull to the right? Pressure is okay, maybe suspension issues? Car is an '03 with 81k miles.

Thanks

That way the screw up would be hurt even worse because in some states there are automatic fines, they have a file with the state & they are reported to the BBB. That's not too good for business and you help others who may have been screwed as well when they have to turn their records over to the state.

Don't believe in self-promotion in the forums....
But I will recommend my partner here in Austin.

Danny Blaylock is a mechanic from the Texas School of the Deaf.
He owns/runs a shop called Silent Automotive.

He's rebuilt several M96 engines from the crank up,
including my everyday driver.
Uses OEM parts, and LN Engineering upgrades.

He'll also work on non-water cooled Porsches as well

Keeping him in business means I have someone to help
me with my toys :-)

I also sub-con my Porsche work to him.

he works via email or texting
