986 factory Bose here….

….I replaced the dash speakers with some 4 inch two-way jobs that were highlighted in this forum five years ago and the total package is really pretty darn good now.

I looked up those speakers about a year ago when another forum-ite asked about upgrading his Bose system and they appear to be out of production.

The adapter mentioned above for aftermarket dash speakers is an easy plug and play way to really improve the Bose system.

Just upgrading the dash speakers makes a huge difference.

The door speakers in the Bose system are just a mid-bass driver.

The rear “tweeters” in the sun box just add enough spacial fill to make a good solid sound stage with the top down.

If you have a factory Bose system, try the cheap route first-buy the dash speaker adapters and jut replace your dash speakers and see how you like that, before jumping in whole hog.

Good luck.
