You might want to try the 18 from San Berdoo to Crestline. It's in good shape and has 2 lanes in each directions...you shouldn't get caught behind a slow car. Once your up in Crestline, take the 138 down to the Cajon Pass (I-15). Might want to wait a couple of days as it looks like it might rain/snow.
