Boxster Service on LI, NY - 986 Forum - The Community for Porsche Boxster & Cayman Owners

I'm picking up an `07 Boxster manana. Not that I expect to need service anytime soon but I was wondering where people on LI, NY were having their vehicles serviced. Advice and suggestions welcome. Thanx.

The two dealerships closest to me are freeport and amityville but freeport has a better reputation

I'm in Levittown and I take it to Freeport right off the meadowbrook pky

I've heard fairly good things about the Huntington dealership and it's probably the place I'll take my 987S for its next annual service.

I tried Roslyn for the one-year service last July on the recommendation from someone on PPBB. They kept the car for four days, although there were only 3.8 hours of work done. Most dealerships call you when a car is delayed. They didn't. I had to keep calling them. After a while, I thought something had happened to the car and they were covering it up. I'm still not sure they captured all the TSBs for my car and I'm now waiting five months to get a callback on a replacement windstop. While they were friendly, the place looked pretty disorganized. A woman customer who owned a 911 told me that I should tip if I want better service (as if Porsche service prices weren't high enough). I got the feeling that the tippers had the work done on their cars first -- and got the Cayenne loaners while I was stuck in a Chevy Malibu. All I can say is that it was not a great service experience for a $60,000 car.

I bought my car at Amityville, another place that doesn't know how to treat a $60,000 customer. That dealership was happy to take my money, but they did not lift a finger to help when my car sat on a European dock for a month while later-production models were being delivered to customers. When it finally arrived, I gave them three days' notice for pickup of my car and I still had to wait an hour at the dealership because they said it wasn't ready. I also believe they never waxed the car, which is probably a good thing. I decided not to have my car maintained there after reading less-than-favorable customer stories online about its VW and Audi service facility.

These experiences are why I have no loyalty to Porsche. They don't really care much about their customers. When my 987S is due for replacement, I'll be shopping around.

Hi, I've used the Huntington dealer and so far all's well. Outside of normal service the car hasn't required anything. But, they do treat us ( the wife and I) well.

Roslyn Porsche is a good place. Lana & Joe are the service managers and they do a great job. So far Im approching my third year with the Boxster and have no negative feed to give you. In short if you live near their area I would be bringing it there.

Bummer man did you deal with Lana? I've never seen anyone tip anyone there so I can not say tipping is a requirement for better service. All I can say is that I have kept my car service for almost three years now and have no complaints with Roslyn or any bad experience.

I've had two horrible experiences at Huntington. The first when I bought my Boxster there (2002) requiring the NY State DMV, local district attorney, and the district courts to resolve. When I gave them a second chance (Jan. 05) with their new GM, they sent me home on a 10 deg day (-10 windchill) with a discharged battery and un-bled cooling system, resulting in a breakdown, and then they gave me a hard time getting a tow, forcing me to walk home the last mile. Never again Huntington!

Thanx to all for the tips on where to/not to service a boxster on LI. In the end I purchased the vehicle in Southampton so I'll give them a try when the time comes. So far they were very helpful as they had no `07 Boxsters on the lot and they got the one I wanted from another dealer without any wrinkles. I'd ruled out several dealers for the original purchase by looking at the number of complaints on the Better Business Bureau website.

I am also not a fan of Huntington Porsche. Their parts dept is not very knowledgable and the service is over priced.

First, they marked me up 60% on the oil for my oil change. They charged me $10/qt for Mobil 1 0W-40 when I can buy it at Walmart for $5.97/qt. And I'm sure they get it cheaper buying in volume. They also charged me $150 for the labor on the oil change which is definitely excessive.

I also had them put new tires on the car while they were working on it and they charged me $420 for labor to mount and balance my tires? They said they charge $100 per tire "because they have to use the special Road Force Balancing machine".

Then they said I needed the Bi annual brake flush. So I said O.K. figuring they had access to my cars service history. They did the brake flush and charged me $196 for labor plus the cost of the fluid. I later found my receipt for service in California and the Porsche dealer there had done the brake flush only a year earlier and only charged me $86 for labor. So Huntngton not only did an unnecesary brake flush but they also charged me $110 more than my dealer in SoCal.

I am taking my Boxster to LynMor Motor Sports in Huntington from now on. They are a Porsche tuner specialist. They build racing Porsche's as well so they are very experienced with performance mods if you are so inclined.

Welcome to Long Island. By now you know how expensive things are here. Taxes are high, fuel is expensive, Porsche service in the stratosphere. I guess the way to look at it is that at the end of the day you still have your Boxster. All dealers are expensive so if you want to keep your warranty or car in tip top shape it will cost you. The license plate should read instead of NY Empire State,NY Taxman will get ya 1 for you 19 for me
