3 Days To Decide: '01 Boxster or '01 CLK55...

What would you pick, and why. I will just have either one for the next 6 months or so. SO the winter isn't an issue.

YES, I know they are apples and oranges, but nonetheless these are my options right now. A Dark Blue 01 CLK55 (coupe) or 01 Seal Grey Boxster. Both in fine condition.

The CLK55 is aluxurious monster , but the Boxster has the Porsche handling + convertible deal working for it. And again, only until the fall.

Poll: WHat do you think, bottom-line? I have 3 days to decide.

If you're considering the Boxster, get the Boxster. The Benz is only a car, albeit a very nice car. Life is short, get somethng really different from the crowd!

If it's a standard Boxster I will go AMG any day. If it's a loaded S it's a tough choice but considering the short time frame I'd still probably go AMG.

go boxster- the friends I have with the newer benzes have had a lot of problems- maybe their issues have been isolated but the reliablilty of those cars have slipped since chrysler has got involved- my thoughts ? you are the only one that can decide- I am of course biased

He said the car is a 2001 so it's not that new. Also, it is under warranty for another year and he will only have it for 6 months. A friend has a 2001 CLK 55 AMG and loves it!

Thanks guys! Keep the thoughts coming...

Here's the deal. I originally wanted a convertible for the summer, hence the Boxster. However I will be taking several 250 mile trips in it and am concerned about the comfort on long trips like that. Obviously I won't have that issue in the Benz, at least when compared to the Box. Also, I am concerned about wind noise and the like with the roof closed at highway+ speeds.

Yeah, I know, it ain't a quiet luxo car. It's a Boxster! But nonetheless...

So when I came across the 55 I was like whoa, I really like the Box and want a convertible for the 6 months, but the CLK is something special (as iss the Boxster, but you know what I mean).

SO... WHat are your thoughts. THanks again people. Later.

The Boxster with the roof up is very quiet at highway+ speeds, and is surprizingly so even with the top down up to ~85 MPH. Above 85, the wind buffeting starts to get more significant for long duration drives. I've driven 100+ MPH with the top down and could hold a conversation OK.

I don't know what seats are in the Boxster you're considering, but that may be a concern for long drives. The standard offer seats are famous for inducing "long drive backaches". Many folks replace their seats with Recaros, etc. to get rid of this one real weakness in the car.
